          Lexan

I find that the thinner the material the better luck I have bending it. Using the 3/32ths stuff works for all my racing applications. I would recommend tracing your design onto a type of card paper. This way, you can finalize the design, edit whats necessary and avoid hassle while fitting your Lexan piece.

Did you mean 3/32nd's ???? I always used 1/16". Many have tried using 1/8" but it's just too stiff and doesnt bend right. Well at least on an Apel Laydown-

I use .060 thick which is about 1/16 it will cold bend with no problem. All my cowls are V shape so the windshield needs to come to a V also.

                  George,

How do you put the 'crease' in the V? Do you use a metal brake? Do you use heat? If so how much; do you know the temp as a function of thickness?

I use two pieces of 2x4 the I have run through the table saw so the edges are sharp. With the protective covering still on the Lexan I put a pencil line down the center of the V and clamp it between the 2x4's in a work mate on the line. I just fould it over with my hands to get it started then I put a board on top and kneel on it to finish the crease.. No heat just room temp. I make spray shields out of the scrapes for my Hotrods doing it the same way.

                    • when i make a v shape cowl i find it easier to heat a strait piece of metal and simply drape the lexan over it at the v. This will not distort the lexan or discolor it. Simply putting it , heat the tool not the material

                      • I made a trip to the MRC factory this weekend and was able to help out with some of the new Region 10 MRC Boats. It was nice to visit with Mike & Teresa. Boats are shaping up nice.
