DSH and qualifiers

D stock seems to be a little slim boat wise this year....any idea as to who will be there?

Dave it's Michigan. There will probably be like 20. But be warned they probably won't like it when you pass them in that Tahatsu...LOL

WEST divisonals was the smallest outside region participation i've ever seen. Region 10 hosted and we only had 1 trailer from out of region come for divisionals (i guess 2/3 if you count John Wesenko of Canada and RJ west for 45 nationals (8th boat)). The only reason the numbers were awesome (over 100 entries per day) was that our region is stong in racers this year. But we still could only get 8 boats for 3 stock classes for a qualifier (20, CSH, ASH).

I guess the qualifier thing is still debatable, but to me it's a good reason for someone to goto nationals that might not have been if not qualified. But it may not be a reason for someone to actually come to a divisionals, hence 1 trailer from Califiornia showing up to Oregon....

I have not seen a DSH race in MI for some time now. I do think they had 3 or 4 in Constantine this year. Not sure on other races. DSH is a gamble on numbers at any race currently. Best to make the call and line them up. I would bet that the APBA Nationals would have enough DSH's though. Still, might want to make sure before you travel 3000 miles.

Keep in mind Dave that region 10 will be bringing 4 of them all by ourselves, that means we don't need too many from the rest of the country.

I have read all the divisional seeding bantering on this hijacked thread and while there are some variances in how people get to their point of opinion, there are only two sides of the table as I see it.

On the left we have those that contend that seeding draws boats to divisional races because it gives teams an extra shot at being awarded a spot in the national final while also earning them a large infusion of points.

On the right we have those that contend that seeding reduces available slots at the nationals which results in reduced national event draw because the chances of getting into the final event are smaller and the bang (chance of the big win) for the buck (cost of long range/cross county travel) is diminished.

Both sides of the table have a compelling argument however I have an idea for a win-win solution. If the national event is a week long event, could there not be one more heat or set of heats per class to ‘mix up’ the odds of awarding finalist and to give all more water time? Wouldn’t this satisfy both arguments thus maximizing attendance at both events? If this were enacted then the Divisionals could keep their attractiveness and the Nationals could also be more appealing to the non divisional attendants/winners.

Here's a bonus chance.........don't JUMP THE GUN all week at Wakefield and I will race DSH for sure 1 time before the SOA season ends................can you do it????????????

FYI -Elims at the Nat's are a 2 heat race. So if there are 36 ASH's trying to qualify there will be 3 ASH races for a total of 6 heats of elims for ASH and then 2 heats for the finals. So barring restarts, which there always are some at the Nat's, and weather delays, which there always are some at the Nat's, there will be 32 classes or so racing all day from Tuesday to Friday. Also, turn boat changes always seem to take longer compared to local races as does running the heats as EVERYONE has to report to inspection after EVERY heat. It takes a bit longer too for the scorer's to get everything recorded as most heats have full fields - lots of numbers to crunch and it is critical to get it right. It is difficult to fit in more heats of racing without running into Saturday and any race committee worth it's salt would want to leave Saturday for a make up day in case they get behind.

Last time we were at Wakefield we had gorgeous weather all week, that has not always been the case.


PS - It is the NATIONALS! A week of boat racing and being with your friends, what more does a person need? Best week of the year. Fastest too, I might add.

PS: Dave, my knee is still not able to stay bent for an extended period of time without hurting, but having over a month and a half before the next race, it might be a possibility...................time will tell!!!!

I have< for a long time now, thought that there should be a last chance qualie. No more filling the last spot on time tie breaker between the last two in the qualies. Instead let in the next 12 to fight it out for the last spot. this would add heats and therefore time, but do it in one heat. Talk about exciting, can you picture 12 CSH's fighting for one spot, with only one start to do it!!!!!

Thank you Darren and Gweedo...who knows, maybe it is my turn. Every year there seems to be one boat in every class that is faster then everybody else...I honestly don't know if that is me in DSH or not....we will see. Ok..back to the original idea of the thread....a little over 2 weeks till Wakefield....who are the hotshots in the J and AXS classes?
