ID this old A/B Hydro?

Hopefully this is the correct forum...
Can anyone ID this old A/B hydro? Any guess at the manufacturer? Or does anyone recognize the driver/paint? Looks like the are in between the sponsons was closed off for more lift? and the front cowl was replaced with aluminum.
Any info you guys have would be appriciated.

Was possibly raced in Kansas City area.

The boat was owned by Tim Fry in Kansas City. I dont think he would have driven but his daughter probably did. I dont think it is an A Hydro but more likely a C stock hydro. I think the brand of boat is a Twister built out of Oklahoma.

Well....

Any chance the photo got reverse imaged somewhere along the way because the cutout on the right cockpit wall makes no sense in the pic otherwise.

I agree someone tried extending the sponsons and deck forward.

The construction details of the transom and steering wheel mount are often good clues to the manufacturer.

I agree with Keith Kampen. I know the KC Outlaws were Tim Fry and family. They moved up to tunnel boats and I am not certain what currently. I recall seeing this hull at an NBRA race or AOF race, and I believe they were using a C Stock Yamato on it. Could have been an 80 as I am not 100% certain which is which at times. If his daughter ran it, it was in Novice with a Y80 restricted. That might explain the addition for more lift.

Thanks for the information so far guys. I bought the boat last night. I took some more pictures to possibly help ID it and gain some knowledge of its racing history.
I have not tried to contact Tim Fry yet, now that you guys mentioned it I talked to him about a Tunnel Hull he was selling years ago and I think it was painted these same colors.
The driver's name on the side is Brad Squires.

maybe this trim will help with ID...looks like it may be an aluminum plate, but I haven sanded that paint from it yet.

I think this was a spoiler that spanned the 2 front sponsons...if you ignore the tunnel extention and liquid nails, you can imagine it, lol.

I purchased this boat with the intent of running my mk20H on it...not racing, but just playing around ay AOMCI meets. It measures 9'9" transom to sponson tip. I have played/raced tunnel hulls and pad v's for over 20yrs, but I have to admit I know nothing about hydros or stock ob racing. Any advice you guys have on motor height and general setup is appreciated. My plan to strip this boat down to bare wood and refinish.

There is no doubt that this was a boat of Tim Fry he went by KC Outlaws. The Driver's name on the boat Brad Squires was a young man that drove some. Brad and his Dad and family went with Tim quite a bit to help out. And yes they run a Yamato on it not sure what size.

to a 20ssH boat I built in the `80s. It had a "wing" up front, later filled in since it didn't work all that well. In fact it sucked - wouldn't get up. Also it was my first large boat (ASH prior) and I kind of overbuilt it. She was tank. I seem to recall it went over 125, maybe 135. Doug Fir stringers = tonnage.

Construction material would be heavy, D-fir is used for vertical weight bearing & spanning. It also varies in weight, from handling literally tons of it I can say 1 piece can be light & the next same size piece can be unbelievably heavy having to do with water weight & density. Typical construction spruce can be good if you find some select clear specimens in the pile of usually pretty ruff stuff.

The way that sheet metal pointed back at ya looked wicked, you could put a nice piece of lexan there now if you want.

Bill...do you have any old pics of the one you built? This was built pretty well to be a homebuilt if you disregard the tunnel extension and sheetmetal cowl. I need to weigh this, but it isn't that heavy really.

I was planning the lexan cowl, mohagany would be better...does anyone sell these parts or have a template to get me close?

Anyone care to guess what the wood is? I don't know much about woods, could the framing be spruce? and the decking be African mahogany? What was common material for raceboats of this era?
Any sources for the wood? I need a 4-6ft piece of 0.5"x1.0" framing and a 32"x40" deck.
The boat is light, I haven't weighed it but I would guess just under 100#.
Paint is coming off nicely...
