  • Cool Tools

I don't know about you but I love tools. Having said that it seems every time I had a need to cut the inner solid part of a throttle cable I always struggled. To alleviate my frustration I recently bought a really nice pair of 10" Knipex cutters ($34.00) that work like dream. So as I sit here looking out at the 9" of new snow we were blessed with I was wondering what kind cool tools or gadgets that make your life in the pits easier.

    Thx,

    Sam

Funny you should mention an impact driver Jeff. I've been waiting for something in the 18volt range to go on sale.........still waiting.

        Good thread Sam!

I just purchased one of these electric hand planers off Ebay. For a cheap little tool, this thing is rude! It has been really helpful in shaping and planing stringers. Probably won't last forever, but well worth the price paid.

They work great and will last a long time if not abused. You can buy an attachment for scarfing.

My friend that works for US Customs and Border Patrol got this issued to him and did not want it as he liked his Gerber better so he gave it to me.

They sell it at Wal Mart in Stainless Steel for under 60 dollars.

I use this thing every day, and not just the bottle opener either.

I also have a Leatherman Wave and I use the thing more than any other tool I have, darn near every day. My 5 D Maglight is a close second.

My Bosch PS20 pocket size drill-driver ... I use it almost every day at work or home. Screws, nuts bolts ... actually has enough torque & speed to drill steel

Mark dont forget , I have a great assortment of hammers, works great on stubborn stuff like getting props off the shafts, and straightning bent skegs, also the big on works good for attidude adjustments on the referee and pitt bosses. dont leave home without these in your trailer

I personally like the socket my buddy made for opening beer bottles like the Bud Light commercial.

                          plug/prop wrench

I special ordered a wrench from my snap on guy. Double box end, 13/16 on one side, 3/4 on the other. Pretty handy in the pits, and in bar brawls!

What are you guys using for a spark tester. TJ has a nice one that shows not only if you are getting spark but also the strength of the spark. If my memory is correct it has spark wire leads connected to board of sorts. On the board there are open contacts that the allow the spark to jump across. Anyway I've looked high and low for one and can't find one........the quest continues.

                              Straightedge

I was fortunate enough to be given what I consider one of my most important tools: a 24" straightedge from Rockler Woodworking and Hardware. Though it's only 24", its "machined flat to within 0.0011" and parallel to within 0.002." I'd saw that is sufficient to make sure your wood is flat. Its steel design is great, as long as you don't drop in on the floor let alone the boat.
