I must say that not many boats appear to be in the build process for this year. I hope this is not a bad sign for the up coming season, more decline in the sport we all love.

We are going to try to build a hydro and a runabout this winter. The first one will be an AXR floater. I am not sure how it will turn out, my wood working skills are non existent. Probably wind up sending it to Carl Staron to fix before we get it done.

Looking good Russ. You plan on selling any of your old J hulls? This Racecraft hydro
rebuild I'm in the proccess of doing is a real challenge!

                Russ,

I am not sure your jig is strong enough! Instead of 4 x 4's maybe 6" x6"'s next time.

                  Chris,

Our hydro that is the twin to yours is no good for J. I need to move the transom and take the recess out of the bottom. Our other Racecraft is not floating at the present time. We are keeping the J B&H for Amy to play with.

Wally Schlipf has the twin to the one Amy sank at Tabor City (picture below). They are great beginner boats for J hydro. I will check with Wally and see if it is available. He would treat you right.

                  Tim,
Due to my temper tantrums it was decided by all involved to keep the heavy lumber. That way I can't throw it out in the lawn when the boat ends up with a transom on each end. My wood working ability is sure to make this boat a real piece of art.
Carl Staron is already calling me the "Wood Butcher".

Russ keep posting updates. Doesn't seem to be much being built this year and I am sure folks will help with suggestions.

We are on hold right now, ran out of stringer material. The phone book doesn't list a "Stringers-R-Us". We have to do some looking around.

Chris 75-F,....Found a "raceboat rescue shelter", it is a "no kill" shelter. 2 or 3 Racecraft hydros are rumored to be retired there but want to get back on the water. I was told "The Price is Right"! I will PM the phone number later tonight.

I have decided to take a new approach to getting more speed. Last year in C Mod our whole set up weighed 475. This year with a new lighter boat and tower we should be much closer to the 440 but to make sure there is only one more place you can shave weight!!

To make the doctor happy I have gone on a dreaded diet. In two weeks I have lost 13 pounds and plan to lose enough to get down to 175. Then I may even need to add some lead!! I must say this time of the year is not the greatest time to start but it is working so far.

                            Only 25 more to go!!

what did you do to save some weight in you new boat, and how much weight did you save?

The boat looks like swiss cheese on the inside and the cockpit sides are much shorter in the back due to the smaller tower and transom. I knew that this would be ok since where we race we don't play bumper cars!

But the next boat will be made with new material that I can now get at the mill where the family works. I will see how Engleman Spruce mills out and compares weight wise.
