  • John,

That is exactly what I proposed! One "New Motor" in production in each class A,B,C, D. While maintaining the current equipment, to be phased out after 3-5 years. The only exception is A which would have two "New Motor" options, Sidewinder and Mercury.

      1) One in production motor per class
      2) Phase out old motors in 3 -5 years.
      3) Schedule Stock Outboard Classic at your races, and run combined with the Stock classes.
Ex. ASH -Sidewinder drivers get points etc. Classic entries get the inexpensive ride/race they want with local awards. Serious racers will find a way to by those new motors. Newbies can start with older/cheaper stuff and/or buy new.
Stock Outboard is happy because we have defined ourselves with a clean slate of classes to promote for the future and a finite direction for all our members..
Manufacturers are happy because there is incentive to buy their product.
Race committees are happy because we can run a shorter schedule without losing money.
Frugal drivers are happy because they can keep their old stuff and run it indefinately.
John I like it. Keep it simple so the new folks can understand the rules which will be simpler and make it easy on inspectors and spectators alike. It really fits in with the current economy too.

Now the wife and I have a new vested interest in new folks. Especially ones that want to build there own boats.

        the Y 102 is gone in C
and the Merc 44 is gone in D
        Correct?

I don't think they are gone. They would run in the same class but would be in the "Classic" division.

          • By running the Classic Division at races how would that shorten the day? Just seems like adding more classes to the race schedule.

                • The way I read Johns post is the perfered engine for that class and the classics would all run in the same heat. Would not add classes but would reduce them to ABCD but would not lose the folks that don't want to upgrade!

2009 this plan was already set into motion with one exception AX and A had their own dominant new motor and then 2010 it was completely dismantled......but hey - you are from Region 6 maybe it will fly now.

Just tell me what the rules are and where we are racing....I'll be there time and money permitted.

I think now may be the right time. More folks have paid attention to the dropping numbers, lack of racers at races and finally see that something has to be done. I guess it is all in the timing! Or maybe it is a year older and a year wiser?

                      • The Future is now

I've followed this thread from the beginning, and I don't know or understand why the omc. "A" has to be eliminated from its class, is it because that replacement parts are unavailable if so that engine will die a slow death anyhow,so who cares, or is it because at this point in time it's the quickest(all things being equal), then those of you who own the S/W better start doing your home after which time it becomes faster, it'll be the motor of choice and the omc."A" will die a slow death anyway. Guys when the "Nationals" are run what do the non winners think, do the pick up there toys and go home and sulk,I think not, they or most of them go home and plan a way to be competitive for the next "Nationals" some succeed were others don't, those people who don't do you think they sell everything and leave the sport! Now Kevin after reading all your rebuttals and negativism I think that you have some ulterior motive or something! If you don't like Deans proposal get your friends to support your views or list your stuff in the "Propeller" want ads section!

                        • If new engines are going to bring new blood to the sport. (I believe it will help I may just not think in the volume that many of you do) and if the average male is around what 180 lbs according to a post earlier? So a pretty good size for the current Sidewinder 15. So how come we are not seeing in influx of new racers in BSH or BSR?

if spending more time trying to recruit new members than I do on my own racing program. By putting in 10-12 hour days at each and every race day. Talking to the spectators at the booth laying out the plan and class structure. I think it is very safe to say that my ulterior motive is to bring new people into this sport. if you do not believe that just ask the racers from my region. I feel very comfortable saying that even those that do not agree with me on the why's and how's will agree that HAS been my focus for several years.
To have that "plan" change every year is very frustrating to say the least.

So under your plan in 3 – 5 years…in ASR & ASH the OMC would be eliminated? In BSR the Old Hot Rod would be eliminated? In BSH the Old Hot Rod and the Yamato 80 would be eliminated? In CSR and CSH the 102 would be eliminated? The 25 engine would be eliminated?

I must have missed that in your proposal...I have to go back and read it again.
