  • Ken Kaiser & Family Update

I received the following mail this AM from Mike Johnson (aka 'Cameraboy'). As you may know, Ken Kaiser is a frequent visitor at Hydroracer, and posts under the name of "39R".

    --------------------------------------
As some of you already know, three members of the Kaiser family (Ken, Becca, and Jared) were involved in a single vehicle rollover accident just south of Othello on Hwy 17 early Sunday morning on their way to the race at Moses Lake.

Ken suffered a cracked sternum (that's the center of the ribcage) and numerous scrapes and bruises (including a doozy of a black eye). Jared suffered a severe scalp laceration and a broken upper arm. Becca was uninjured except for some bruises. She got her family out of the truck and got help.

Jared was airlifted to Spokane so that a pediatric surgeon could sew up the wound. The surgery went well, and Jennifer was able to talk to him by phone afterwards. Ken will be laid up at Othello overnight (Sunday). Buzz Thorsen brought Jennifer up to Othello in the motor home by the afternoon, and they will head to Spokane this evening to see Jared (who could well be released Monday evening). The plan is to pick up Ken on the way back (that was the plan as of 4:30 Sunday afternoon when Denise and I visited on the way back from the race).

Ken is in room 201 at the Othello hospital. He's in pretty good spirits at this point (he has challenged me to a bout of Greco-Roman wrestling later this week). Sheryl and Kevin were going to try and visit Jared on their return to Spokane this evening.

Your continued positive vibes for the Kaisers are much appreciated.

    Get Well Soon!

We are thinking and praying for you and your family Ken!! As you may remember, our daughters were in a pretty horrific car accident two years ago, probably in the same spot. The doctors at Othello saved their lives, and you are in good hands. I hope that everything goes well with your recoveries, and if there is anything you guys need, please let us know.

after seeing jared and the girls in the hospital last night, becca should really be thought of as a hero here, she pulled both of them from the wreckage, and put a pillow over jared's head to save him from bleeding out!!! what actions for a 15 year old girl!!!! what a great family, we're doing everything we can for all of them here, colin our 7 year old is jared's little buddy, jared really enjoyed seeing him last night. this kid is the strongest thing i've ever witnessed, a real inspiration!!! keep you posted kevin &sheryl

just got back from the hospital, jared looks great, he has a very small skull fracture, lots of stitches, and some road rash to go with his broken arm. his spirits are greeat!!! this kid is sooo cute, and very strong!!!! ken goes in for surgery to repair his broken neck tomorrow afternoon, and it looks like they will leave the broken sturnum (sp) alone to heal on it's own. ken looks real bad with his black eye and road rashes all over, but his conversation was good and smiled a bit. the girls are hanging in there really strong, great for the boys!!! kevin and sheryl

          Kevin

Sorry I missed the race, but just got back from N. Carolina again, and heard the news. I'm probably the closest (location wise) to Ken, so have them let me know if there is anything I can do.

              Update

Hey there, I spoke with Kevin Martin this morning, and he says that the guys might be released as early as this weekend. They are going to need a comfortable ride home in a motorhome with a bed, and he is looking for a possible volunteer??? We will help out with costs for gas etc., and anyone else who might be interested in a donation or transport, please contact Kevin ASAP.

              THANKS KEVIN AND SHERYL!!

I don't have access to a motorhome to get them home, but I will throw in the first $100 bucks for gas to help out and get things rolling. Keep me posted on the status of things.

                      Kevin and Sheryl ...

Would you be able to post a mailing address for those of us that would like to help out. I'm sure that there are many of us on this list that would like to get a check on its way for Ken and family ASAP.

                      Thanks.
