    80!

I never saw 80 in DSH until this year, and I'll be surprised if I'm seeing it in CMH! Oh which, by the way, I'm building one right now....at about the same pace as my DMH....

Thats great. What year is it suppose to be finish? Don't let Daren paint it red!! When will you find time to drive another boat at races?

We will have to pick a race to run all of these new C Mods. Time to get back to work.

I think Garman sold a lot of those all to boat racers.

Finished lower unit and the bottom of the newer C mod boat almost ready to flip over. This one is being made just for Machined Components tower to get a lower CG.

That gear case looks great!. On mine I cut back the lower part of the pick up hole to just a little hook like a salmon jaw. This made for s smoother more rounded nose. Also in MOD you can knife edge the heck out of the skeg. 50-R

                Good job

Good job Mike, welcome to modified !

I think everyone is right, shoot for the Mid 70's and you will be competitive. if you want to be fast out front, shot for the upper 70's mark. I don't think the top dogs in the class are running a true 80 MPH or more. Maybe on a long course and a big prop, but not in normal circumstances. I beleived it when Scott Clark told me that at Whitney point though. That was one big course at the Nat's a couple years back.

                  Numbers

Oh man... the numbers...I have chased the numbers for a long time, and the last few years I took all of that stuff (gps-digitron) all out. I have been beaten time and time again by guys who were not as fast but knew how to get in and out of the corners and get good starts. Now we only use the flight data stuff for testing new props to make sure the prop isn't "spinning away". The fastest we ever got out of the "C" mod Yamato was 77 consistently. Maybe a hair more once in a while but when we saw a little more it was very little and could not be achieved twice. It also has a bit to do with your height above sea level, and the temp of the water you are running in.
Of all the things I've lost I miss my mind the most.

Sonny, I must say the brief time I opened it up it was a short strait and we are a good ways off. But I was running the motor 1/2 inch deep and with just an old CSH prop. We have a lot more to play with and I have a new Tach coming that has memory so that will help. Also waiting on the new props coming. 4 blades should be nice.

It will be fun to try the motor not so deep with the new water pick up. Once we get everything worked out with this boat it should be a snap to go to the new boat with the lower tower and transom.

I guess the bad part is I will be the only one running C Mod right now till I get some more folks interested. So I guess they will put me with the nasty old DSH's LOL

No, no, no. Register as a c-mod, then get some c-stocks who want to run more to step up and run with you. It's not hard to find stockers who want to make some extra laps

                      • good idea. I know there are folks who always want to run more when they can afford it. Maybe if I am desperate I can pay their entry fees for that class

Plus, you will get C-mod points, instead of D-stock points incase you are chasing points

                          • I have done the points thing for two years. This is a fun year for just experimenting. I wonder if we will have much in the way of DSH's anyway. I know we lost one for now and we only had 3-4 most of the last year.

                            • I will post some pics of the "C" mod rig we are running but it is just like yours... same deal. We run it 1/4 up and 1/4 tucked, so.. the bottom of the propshaft is flush with the true bottom of the boat (not the tunnel).. when indicated off of the center of the propshaft that is 1/4 up. And tucked under 1/4 inch.. If the boat is still "glued down" take it back to 1/8 tucked. Try that.. we tested and tested and tested and that is what worked best for us. We struggle a little because the laydown rig doesn't seem to pop out of the corner like a nealer will. But we are working on it. The laydown takes a pair of plums to drive.. because you are laying up twords the front of that boat you have to rifle it in to the corner as hot as you can... if you crack the throttle going in you drop the sponsons and drag the boat through the corner. It is supposed to be a safer ride because of the lower center of gravity rumor has it that you will flat spin the boat easier than you can blow it over. One thing is for certain... it will turn like nothing elts out there. Welcome to the mod classes, You have done a beautiful job on you equipment. I hope you can make it to the east coast for a few races.

                              • Sonny, if the economy ever recovers so that we can get our retirement off the ground that is in the plan. We would like to travel around the country and hit as many races as possible on the east coast, west coast and anywhere in between.

I have also spent some time e-mailing Dave Curtis and he has a boat like the one I just built and sounds like you have one also. He has been a great help. I really liked how smooth the boat was for a first laydown ride.

Also need to add that we are at an altitude of 2500 feet so I figure that will affect our speed also. I think a lot of our races are fairly high.
