  • Now come on, I only tease you because I can! This is payback for all the **** that you flipped me about the horses for years! I really don't mind what you spend on the boats.

      • Yes they are and as Mike is quick to point out if finances get tough they still have to be fed and buyers in a bad market are hard to find, boats can be put in the shop and cost nothing. I did however downsize to miniatures! I have however decided that MOD boats are more of a drain on the payroll than STOCK boats. It is still all good however, I enjoy my boat racing family! Should MOD boats come with built in tow ropes just like fast cars should come with pre-filled out speeding tickets?

          • Thats the second new boat for me where the throttle has come undone at the throttle handle.
I bend the end of the cable over after the clamp/lock screw.

This throttle will not allow the bending of the rod so I used loctite on both set screws. We will see if that works.

                • I think I found all of my motor problems so now I just need to get it back together. I guess we will find out this weekend.

                  • The motor problem is all better. The whole problem started when I put on the new water pickup system. I decided in my great wisdom to pump water thru it and make sure the water came out the exit tubes the way the system was designed. But a large amount of water came out the stock exhaust. Did not seem normal so I have been in discussion with various folks and have also taken the motor apart many times.

Can anyone think of what was causing the problem?

If anyone ever takes the stock exhaust cover off and you look in the lower left hand corner of the water chamber around the cylinders you will see a little tube sticking up. That sends water down the stock exhaust system all the time. The motor was DESIGNED to do this

I put this all down in this thread so that folks who want to get into this class will not run into these pit falls. Now we get to try it all Friday

All that I have to do now is install the mirrors and GPS mount. Finally almost done.

                      Mike,

Most fishing engines have this design, so yes, you have to plug the stock tube. In most Mod classes, you can simply silicone the bottom closed. For the 850's you can block it on the tower housing, or simply let it come out through the tower, from the stock hole, you just drill a hole and put a fitting in the tower. Not saying this is all you should do, some exit water differently depending on needs for exhaust temps.

Just a little something to pay attention to in case you build another mod engine some day.

                      • I make my my own towers and I just let the water drain there at the bottom of the block. I have never had a problem. If it did not drain there the block would not drain all the way. I saw that you guys were having some fun with the nose cones so I thought I would try one. But the epoxy makes me a little nervous, so..friday night I got with the Crown Royal and ginger ale,...And I got with the welding gear and tried one. It still needs to be sent to the Gearfoot master Mr Tom Cronk for a final shaping. but I got it this far. So since I was on a roll and found myself newly inspired I started digging in the parts pile and built this backwards "B" mod. I have seen this done before and I always thought it was kind of neat. Is anyone aware of any advantage or disadvantage to doing it this way?

Many guys used to run the Alky RB's like this. No real performance advantage as far as I know, other than it had something to do with routing the wrap around pipes so the stingers weren't facing forward and you didn't necessarily have to run an airbox/spray shield.

Also, I'd ditch that fuel tank

                          • We are now back from our race and the cooling system worked great and that was it. The whole set up was a failure. We threw everything at it but could get no speed. I think every stock class could pass us except a "J"
I guess we will try again in two weeks.
