It certainly does have a certain je ne sais quoi.

Just thought it also needed a little Français (for Rachel, of course) to go along with the weights, heights, part numbers, dates, capitalism, socialism, and... you know something Don? I think you're right. It has gotten a little out of whack.

      LOL
je ne sais quoi.? I do not think that applies at all. I think it is very easy to describe. the posts are very much off topic. of which I consider myself to be very guilty of. Or they are on topic and then for the most part Bill Hemps descripton is seems very accurate.

              • j weight merc/omc

                just a ponder here:
since some complain about the weights, slowing class down etc... and the merc weighing more than omc-- why not increase the weight for the merc and leave the omc j rig weight alone?
raise the weight for a merc outfit by 10-15lbs compensating for the heavier motor. slow the merc down a tad (maybe)--makes up the difference for the weight increase from motor to motor and wont affect the omc which are slower anyway.
I think the 60j had a different weight than the merc 7.5--yah yah showing my age when I raced J.
i could go on and on into a big dissertation except its friday night and i have a drink (or two) looking for me!!!!

                • what about the young ladies??

I'm going to bat for the 13 or 14 year old who has been racing for 4 or 5 years who would like to win the Nats but doesn't stand a chance against the undernourished 11 year old in a paper-bag boat that weighs in at 298! The average 13 or 14 year old fed on a healthy diet at Subway is going to weigh 118 to 135 plus. No way is he/she going to rock 298.

So, here's my solution: Make the legal JH / JR weight 345, and keep AX where it is. That way, the new 9 yr old J piloto will need to run a heavier boat.. which, (as history knows) will get on plane. Notice I did not say add lead, weight, etc, just run a heavier / bigger / safer, boat.

Put yourself in the pants (ie, don't try that.. use your imagination!!) of the 13/14 year old I mentioned. How would you like to be in his/her kevlars and getting waxed every weekend by some punky 9/10 year old in their first year of racing. THINK about that will ya!?!? That's the kind of scenario which is discouraging the 13/14 yr old running J. No wonder they can't wait to run AX.

How about some constructive suggestions for the J classes ?/ 1. Make no changes to J Hydro or Runabout .. 2 lower the ASXS age to 11.

Both Joey and Amy have opted for KPro. Amy will be 11 in February and only wants to run J when there is no KPro on the schedule. Joey opted for KPro when he was 11 also and only ran J when the class was short on entries.
Amy would gladly run AX but is only old enough for KPro.

                            1. Personally, I'd be fine with adding some weight, or leaving the same (I have light drivers). I've suggested raising the weight only because I think it is forces the equivalent to horse racing (light jockey's)... Other than weight, I agree. No changes to J Hyrdro or Runabout.

                            2. I agree. Some kids are ready to go faster at 11, and some drivers are too heavy at 11 to compete in J.

I'd like to add that we also make no changes to the 10 year old rule about plugging the motor (for all the reason's I'd mentioned earlier in this thread).

                            • I agree

Richard I think you are right adjust the weight. and leave it alone. Some kids will be ready sooner for AX some won't so the age is a tricky subject.

I feel that it is up to all of us to help J parents make wise decisions on how fast their kid should be going. I know that Michael has benefited from outside help and so have I.

                              My 2 cents
