  • Some pics of my new build

I thought I would put some pics up of my lastest project. I bought the hull during the summer here in Toledo. I wasn't really looking for a boat at this time, but it was to good of a deal to pass up. My older brother and I had a 10' hydro way back when I was 10 years old. We have been kicking the idea around of building another for fun. Well I'm 41 now, and when this deal popped up I couldn't resist. I have been told this a Black Widow hull built in 88. I am completely redoing it. The past owners really hacked it up over the years, so it now has a new bulkhead, sub floor, and transom. We found a "like brand new" 50 horse Merc for it. The man who owned it bought it new in 1970, and has had it in the basement since 72. It is a really nice peice. We started putting all new steering in it, and getting the seat and fuel tank in place. The pics of it in yellow are from when I bought it, and as you can see we have started prepping for a new paint scheme.
I don't plan on racing this, it's just for fun at the lake. I have a couple of race cars now, so I don't need to get into another race project. My wife seems to think that things will change after I go to a couple of boats races. I will keep putting some pics up to show the progress.
    Scott

Hi Scott, Is your brother Joe Amato, of drag racing fame?

No relation, thats a nick name my dad gave me 20 years ago when I started racing dragsters. But it was from Joe Amato.

Yeah the motor is perfect. The guy I bought it from bought it new in 70, ran it about ten times, then sold the boat. It has been in his basement since 73. I got the owners manual, and it still had the original pull rope in the pouch behind the engine cover.

even as cherry as the motor might be................you would be very wise to pull the top and bottom crankshaft end caps and replace the seals, as I can pretty much guarantee they are hard as a rock..............which will allow water to be pulled into the bottom cylinders and eventually create damage to the bottom cylinders and lower ball bearing...........
