Since Stock Outboarder's do not have fans and sponsors to impress i have felt over the years that we need to focus on motors like the 302 that is capable of running in several different classes thereby giving the DRIVER the biggest bang for their buck!!
I will say i do not support multilpe motors in any single class. I think we need to phase out the older motors and give the advantage to the currently produced engines and phase out the older motors in time. Note, i said in TIME.
OK I agree he would have to give up his current BOD seat...but he could also get back on the BOD if the Catagory chairman elected to fill the seat that they elect to fill.

It would be nice to know who is interested in the Stock Chairman position. Once the new commissioners are elected here in the next few weeks. The APBA office will send those new commissioners a ballot to vote for the next chairman . I think Scott Reed is the only one i know of for sure. I myself would have a hard time justifying a run for this office. I currently am unemployed and not financially set to attend all the meetings and national events. I wish things were different because i would definitely run for this office again. I have 6 years experience running the meetings and have 30 plus years of racing in the Stock division. Dang it sucks living in Michigan right now. Lets see who is up to making STOCK-OUTBOARD ROCK!!!!!!!Mikey
Hmmm......after reading all the threads (politics) on this topic, ask yourself, is this sport really that enticing for new prospective racers (other than the current 400) to spend their money to engage in
yes it is, try it

302SSH.....Putting the Stock back in Stock Outboard
We have heard all of the Mercury proponents say it is not about competing its about seat time. So what if you were able to race the Merc in the A class to fill the field, to get your seat time, but you would only be awarded high points if you raced the OMC A.
This seems like it would insure you get your seat time and since your not concerned with winning you would not get points in the A class.
People who wanted to race for high points and Hall of Champions would run the OMC.
And who's going to police this "no points for a Mercury in ASH" plan? Yes, I know each driver will to tell the scorer what motor he is running as he's coming through registration. And no scorer will make a mistake and award points to a Mercury. At least that is how it would work in the perfect SORC world.
But we all know in the real world that registration is busy and scorer's have plenty to check on and do already and drivers are in a hurry to get the paperwork done and get back to the rush of getting ready to race. So is it the scorer's job while she's watching for gun jumpers to verify each driver's motor? Or is it the referee's job as he's watching for lane changes to verify each driver's motor and check with the scorer to be sure it's noted correctly on the summary sheet? Or is it the inspector's job to check all A motors after each heat and notify the scorer who has which motor?
And what happens when someone with a Mercury gets awarded points in error? Who's going to police that? And make the corrections at APBA?
Please consider carefully how it will work before you introduce this idea as an actual plan to the SORC.
Not trying to rain on your parade......Just an old scorer/referee/inspection worker's thoughts.

This seems like a good compromise that should satisfy all parties.

We are a self policing organisation. Allways have been. Everyone knows who runs what motor and if an error ever occurrred that was so heinous that someone was about to receive an undeserved award a simple phone call or e-mail to HQ would fix the problem. Errors occur now and this is how they are fixed.
Points are available for all to see at the APBA-racing website. There is allready a place to put motor make on the entry blank. This adds little and possibly no burden to scorers, inspectors, and referees, especially if the electronic scoresheets are used.
In addition, I understand an end of year points audit for every class is performed before National Awards are announced. I am sure that looking for the make of motor would be a point of emphasis for the A class if the Merc 15 was brought back into Stock Outboard under the condition of no national points.
Jeff5P, Mary I agree with you 100%
Brad Walker Have you ever held the position of Chief Scorer? You say it is so easy, Really? Go the the Scorers meeting in Seattle and tell them that.
BTW, National points are not tabulated by the Chief Scorer. Cindy at APBAHQ does that. So tell Cindy want your plan is and note the look on her face when you do.
