Stock Pickle Rules

OK you folks, I guess ,as usual, I didn't know what I was talking about. What is a has been Mod guy doing talking about stock stuff? I apologize. Anyway it was fun. I retro-fitted my Mod boat eventhough it did not have to be done and it was quite easy. I just did the sponsons. Did not do anything to the cockpit sides. At least I have minimized the hazard to others. My driver will have to take his chances. Jack

Can someone tell me where the rule is written...maybe I just missed it but in the minutes from the SORC meeting just says it passed."Ask anyone, I have no friends. I do have some people that put up with me and mostly because they like the rest of my family"

How about someone just tell me where I can go read the rule? Instead of me just trying to find it? I just want to find it so I know what I need to do on our 6 hydros...I'm not asking you to draw it for me. Even though I am a visual person and it would be helpful.
I asked 5 days ago and no one can tell me where the rule is?
I can see now why Donny wanted me to change my name so people don't think it's him."Ask anyone, I have no friends. I do have some people that put up with me and mostly because they like the rest of my family"

Since there seems to be alot of people saying 1/2" Radius. I started looking. I haven't found anything that includes the actual wording of the proposal, however, there was discussion in the Steering commitee minutes about it (below) they are saying 3/4" for stock.
From Steering Commitee Minutes - Page 3. - Jan 22, 09
Mod and PRO did not take any action on their existing picklefork rules. Stock passed a
rule with a smaller radius requirement. Pro and Mod have a 1” radius and Stock has a
3/4” radius. Stock does require this for all hydros, while Pro and Mod limited it to only
boats built after 11/1/08. The chairman noted that he would like to see the same rule
cover all categories and would work towards that goal with the chairmen.----

I can't tell you where it is printed, but I can tell you that the APBA Steering Committee report is wrong. S.O.passed a 1/2" radius & 1/2" thickness rule.John Runne

How does APBA work? Is the convention in January 2009 for rules in 2009 or for 2010? I thought 2009, that's how CBF does it anyway. With so many things up in the air it seems and seemingly unprinted or PDF'd in official documents, I guess they are for 2010? APBA works a year in advance to give people more time to adjust? (or argue? haha). or more time for the mostly volunteer group to accomplish the tasks?
Or maybe things are just behind this time around?Fralick Racing

APBA Jan 09 meeting would be for rule changes primarily for the 2010 season. CBF is Nov 09 for rules effective in 2010 race season.
As far as I know the 2010 book would be ready in November 2009 for APBA - still having all winter to make the required changes to our rigs.
That is how i understand it anyway.----

Pickle forks
1) Safety Rule 3. (new item) 20.
A) Effective November 1, 2009. All Stock Outboard hydroplane hulls shall have the foremost point of the sponsons and cockpit nose (where applicable) meet the following requirements for shape. 'The foremost point of the sponsons and cockpit nose (where applicable) shall have a radius (from the top view and/or bottom view) of no less than 1/2''. The Defined radius shall be meet for no less then a 90. Within the defined radius, at no point shall the thickness be less than 1/2' (as viewed from the front or side). (see figure for clarification)
B) Boats equipped with Break-away pickle forks and Break-away cockpit noses that meet a laminate thickness of no more then 1/6’’ or 1.5 mm. the break away part must also contain no material other then the outer shell. The boat must also provide a way for inspection. The collapsible section must be a min of 3’’ and have a bulked at the start of the non-break away part of the sponson.
C) Conventional round-nose hydroplane hulls without pickle forks or sponson noses that extend forward of the body of the hull are exempt from the radius part of this rule but must still meet the ½’’ thickness.
Reason to reduce the distance a pickle will penetrate into the cockpit of a boat.
Data behind rule
Mod/Pro rule gives you 0.8839 square inches of surface
UIM Rule gives you 1.25 square inches of surface
Stock Rule gives you 0.5 square inches of surfaceJohn Runne

thanks John...
one question...by saying "All Stock Outboard hydroplane hulls" we are refering to hydros only? Runabouts are exempt?"Ask anyone, I have no friends. I do have some people that put up with me and mostly because they like the rest of my family"

So just to clearify, the section of the hull between the pickles has no demension or modification required if it is straight across.
Just the points if the cowling overhangs the actual front of the hull?
Thanks----

So with that logic if I run a 2 blade prop I should not have to wear kevlar since i decrease my chances of getting cut?"Ask anyone, I have no friends. I do have some people that put up with me and mostly because they like the rest of my family"
