  • Scoring at Top'O-Marathon Nationals

At our meeting last night, there was much discussion regarding the difficulty of scoring. Probably the biggest issue is being able to tell the difference between the 'C' boats and the Yamato powered '25s'. I've noticed that many boats don't have the class designation properly displayed.
We are aware that many entrants are 'put together' with many rigs borrowed and numbers changed, and that has always been the spirit of Top'O, BUT! Our club officials would like it to be known that: "In order to get an inspection sticker at this years Marathon Nationals, you will have to have proper 'class' identification displayed on your hull, regardless of class."
This will be announced at registration, and also at the drivers meeting. But I was asked to post this to help give racers a heads up on this important issue, and to help avoid a lot of last minute scrambling in the pits. The class designation should be placed in front of the numbers and be the same size as the numbers. The scorers thank you in advance for your cooperation.

I'm confused , unless I've misunderstood the APBA rule book there are specific number size requirements outlined for each class such as the "example" below.

    4. Runabouts used in MO, SO, JR and AXSR classes must be affixed with numbers that are black on a solid white background or white on a solid
black background. The figures and letters must be at least 6 inches in height and the stroke must be at least 1 inch wide, where space permits. There
must be at least 1 inch of background around the number, where space permits. There must be a minimum of one (1) inch spacing between each figure
and letter, where space permits. Numbers must be affixed to both sides of the boat.

Beyond that when you register your boat number you register by class. So even if you did not have a class ID on your boat (shame on you ) your number would tell the officials what class your are running in. As I understand the rules you need to have a class category ID displayed on the boat so it is clearly visible but I have yet to read where It says it needs to immediately proceed the boat number. So unless I missed something I hope the club can define per the APBA rule book what "Proper Class Identification" means.

I understand and applaud the clubs desire to be as through as possible. The organizers do a world class job in putting on this event so please don't misunderstand my inquiry.

    Thanks,
    Sam

Top O has a requirement for the class to be shown on the boat so each boat is scored in it's class. In some instances the check point lanes are pretty wide and it becomes necessary to enable accurate scoring.

Why don't you guys in the club come up with a cool sticker for the marathon that would display the class. Make it real cool with a top o logo so when you see it on someone's boat, it is very easy to pick out and see what class the boat is running in. Racers love to sticker up there boats and a neat personalized race/class sticker would be cool. Mikey
