Steve, no Merc Cmod for me anymore...........since more and more race courses prevent megaphone motors, I switched over to the 302 expansion chamber motor.................PLUS, the 302 is SO MUCH more reliable, parts are readily available, and all you gotta do is pull the rope and go racing............makes it easy when you race 4 classes.............

BTW..........has anyone ever had any 302 mag problems? I found my problem with my motor shutting off all a sudden at full throttle (very scary when it does it entering the first turn while in lane one!) to be the mags fault.............swapped the mag and it runs great..................have not gotten a chance to tear into the mag yet...............

Only problem we ever had with a 302 mag was one that kept popping off and on, like a miss. We tracked it down to a spot on a kill switch wire way up inside the mag where the insulation had worn off one of the wires and the bare spot was grounding against the stator. A very easy fix, and might be a good place to start looking.

thought about that Pat, but that would not cause the motor to shut off, maybe one cylinder, but not completely, especially since I do not have the blocking diode for the kill switch installed under the mag............gotta be a charge coil or something heating up and shorting out.............will check it out tommorrow though, as I stole the mag from my CSR motor!!!!!

but, as they say...............you never know................I do know a pretty decent outboard mechanic.............
