    Roflmao !!!

    Kevin,

Ya, some things never change..... Dad likes it like that ! Ya just gotta stick it in there if you want the lane... hehehehe. Rusty Ray has a good pic of him in that CMH obtaiing the inside lane... or rather sticking it in there.

Jeff, thanks for the pic of Dad is the old CUS boat. We called it the CUS boat, his CMH that he won so many Nationals in, and so many high points. I remember riding in that rig when I was a young kid. I also remember spending most of my birthdays in Kingston... like almost my entire childhoopd birthdays. Not complaining, I got a bday party at the boat races, at school when we got home, and one at home !! I welcomed being in TN as a kid ! Went white water rafting a few times with Warren Hill on the Ocoee river after the Nat's. The fun we used to have....

The Byers Hydro that Lyle is driving was built just for C MOD Hydro for him by Dick Byers. He ran it in other classes after it got older. Byers had some great boats at that time.

Steve---The racer you were referring to was Willie Hulsey. Willie was the fearless leader of the "Bar-B-Que Boys" of Oklahoma. Willie was the greatest fan of any kind of racing I have ever met. We miss him dearly. In his last years he owned equipment that his nephew drove and they were on there way to many championships (and I am afraid that was kicking my **ss). I believe Lyle met the Bar-B-Que boys at the Nationals in Kingston. We all had a great time when we were together. Lyle did drive all the way down for his funeral services in 2000 and we all were so humbled by is attendance. I know Willie's family thought the same. I can remember many times winning a big race and Willie had a knack for bringing you back down to reality. I won three AOF Nationals one year and was gloating inside while we were eating dinner. We had a big crowd and Willie proceeded to tell me "I was not half the driver as my old man". Man did he deflate me, but that was Willie. It just made you go out and kick butt the next race. Thanks for bringing Willie up and letting me bring back some memories.

                Dr. Rick & Steve,
That is very cool. I never thought that those kind of things would have ever came from this post. That tells me that Willie made one heck of impact on Lyle. No telling what that was. WOW! What a FAMILY that boat racing really has. That is what boat racing is all about and what it means to me. I cant even begin to express. other than that all of you are my FAMILY TOO! Like Dave M. I spent most of my Birthdays at boat races. I grew up on the banks of the Tennessee making mud pies and loving boat racing. I remember that my first boat ride was at Scottsboro, Al. I was about five years old and my dad actually put my hand on the steering wheel. That started it all. I've not been the same since. (Nuts!!)

Willie was one hell of a guy, as long as you were on his good side. I miss him each time I go to an NBRA race, or even a race near the south.

Rick, I think we met Willie in Okomogie, OK. AOF Nat's in the 70's. Not 100% sure of that, I will check with mom & dad later. I do remember all the BBQ Boys, and love the times we have together. You need to round them all up and haul them to Centrallia for the NBRA Nat's. Might need a second motorhome for them though... hehehehe.

Tell Bobbie I said hey if you see him soon, and Mark, and so on and so forth.

                      Raleigh

I talked with John Wearlys brother in law at Raleigh. For those that never knew John, he was a great driver. He ran AMH an BMH an had some fast Hot Rods. the motors are gone but he still has his Marchetti.

John is doing great. We see him every year at the IOA race in Huntington, IN. He runs the patrol boat. I talk to Molly every now and again, we keep in touch with email.

That has to be Dayton. By the way, we still use the same clock at Dayton shown in that photograph and that's the genious, Gary Romberg, one of the co-designers of the Plymouth Superbird that won Richard Petty so many NASCAR races standing next to Miller looking confused! Eddie.
