    Lectron vs. Mikuni

    Sean,

The Hot Rods have used a Lectron (copy of Mikuni gilletine(sp)/slide style) carbs since the mid-80s and they work very good. There is a lot of adjustment in them at all ranges (low, mid, and high). Lectron was just another option and lower price I believe than the Mikuni's at the time and of course they are America made.

Not a bad thing at all. Rip off, was a common midwest slang term my ad used for "copy". The carbs were great design, and the dual float eliminated the need for a baffle

I looked into using Lectrons on mod motors where the rules allow ... pretty cool carbs. The flat throttle shutter is supposed to flow more air than the round throttles like Mukinis ... Mukinis are actually refinements of German carbs from the 1950's. Konig used several different brands of round slide carbs in the 1950's before making his own carbs.

Yamaha copied Suzuki, who had stolen from MZ in Germany ... actual larceny, not figuratively.

Thanks, guys - that addresses some concerns I was hearing and didn't have an intelligent response for. This thread is providing the info we need out West - remember, a number of us saw our first Hot Rods at Nationals last year (we don't get out much ), and my driver was still teething the last time anyone out here ran one.

                Classes for the Sidewinder

The Sidewinder 15 (which is the motor being discussed) is for the current B class in Stock Outboard (B Stock Hydro & Runabout) and is for the 250cc Mod class in Mod Outboard (250cc Mod Hydro & Runabout). The motor is currently probationary in Stock Outboard, but I believe it is already a legal motor in Mod Outboard.

                  sale of motors

There have been two sold already. Gene Schertz (sp?) bought the first one and I made the second purchase. Gene is running his in BSR and I've run mine in BSH and planning to run it in 250cc Mod Hydro this weekend at Zanesville, OH.

There is a link to e-mail Racing Outboards LLC (the manufacturer) on the front page of the HydroRacer website. I'm sure they would be happy to talk to you about a purchase.

You spelled it right Dudley. I am also running it in BSH when we have enough boats. So far it has been more competitive in BSH then BSR for me. I,m not sure if its just the driver or if its the props I have available. I'm thinkin it's the prop

I also know of at least 2 people that have expressed and interest in purchasing just a power head to bolt onto their current hotrod tower and foot.

                      Hooked on phonics

Gene (I guess phonics really does work),
If you haven't talked to Ed Runne since yesterday, you probably want to give him a call before your next race. We worked on tuning the carb in the test tank yesterday, I'm not sure what metering rod and length you're using, so the changes may help you out as well. We also adjusted the float level up, which we think will cure the bogging in the corners. After adjusting the float level you'll need to take the vent/overflow tubes and connect them with a tee fitting over the top of the carb so you don't dump fuel all over the place. Ed might be able to explain it better or I can try to post pictures if you would like.

I'll post results from Zanesville this weekend and Akron next weekend.

Due to the lack of sheep and abundance of Nationals thoughts I am still awake. However, I just wanted to congratulate Gene and Dudley on there Sidewinder purchases. Knowing that these are the first of many, you guys should be all tuned in and running before everyone, good job! I would also like to congratulate Racing Outboards on the successful introduction of a new motor to the sport. Ed(and Hank) and Ron, all I have to say is, wow! Your patience, work ethic, and tireless efforts to get this done is unbelievable. GREAT WORK GUYS!

                              Will do Dudley,
I will probably do most of the testing on the hydro. I have a few more props to work with for it.
Got your PM Steve, See you there.

                                Gene,
Talk to Ed Runne about the carb adjustments. Maybe you can do a confirmation on the float level adjustment since you'll be in slightly more controlled cir***stances. From everyone we've talked to it should fix the bogging in the corners. I'll also post results from this weekends racing @ Zanesville. Good luck with the test session, sounds like you'll have some good help there.
