SO Chairman.......... Are there any new rules proposed for 2008. I thought I'd ask now as testing will start soon, and I'd like to know what's up for 2008.

2008
I see the 2008 MOD rules are posted on the APBA site.
Under Cmod , they now allow aftermarket/external coils to be used on a
Y102 in place of the OEM ones. This is good, as it frees up whats left of the OEM coils for the stock guys, makes it cheaper to run a Cmod, and encourages the gradual migration of the old 102 from stock to mod.
Nice to see some thing happening without us all getting worked up over it.
Now if they would allow the use of the [stock] 102/302 lower unit in
D-stock, you would see DSH double in three years.Brian Hendrick, #66 F

I got one. The new 20ci. B Runabout class should have a rule stating that all boats that compete in this class should me certain measurement criteria that include a 26" bottom width and large double sided chines. This would enable us(stockers) to race in rougher conditions and have some venues that would be closer to civilization. Also, it would promote our long lost Stock tradition of Marathon Racing.
Personally, I think more strict boat specification rules would help in the long term.
Also, I think the issue of chopping, bearing away, and forcing the overlap should be addressed and updated at the meeting. It seems to be easier to call someone for chopping than forcing the overlap or bearing away. I think their should be a section in the rule book that is dedicated to these three rule infractions and maybe even a graph or series of pictures or examples to further inform racers on what the rules actually mean and how they are supposed to be used.sigpic

Just a thought. Happy New year!

That is exactly why I think these rules should be refreshed, because of what you say,"...many...don't know how to call...these infractions." These rules are not used enough and maybe with a little National recognition at the meeting they can be addressed and updated, and then when the time comes to call such an infraction the "turn judge"(who should be asked about these rules before they go out) will know how to do so.
Happy New Year to you too Matt, and I will see at your award ceremony.sigpic

Turn boat duty needs to be taken seriously.
I personally have seen quite a few instances where guys in the turn boats are just sitting there BSing and don't even turn to watch the boats go through the turn. To be worth anything a turn judge has to watch the race! Many of the calls that have to be made are so obvious that it's not that hard to do the right thing. One of the biggest problems, as I see it, is the case where the driver refuses to own up to his mistake and goes nuts about it.

Busted!
I was just trying to throw off the competition. I was REALLY hoping the Byrne brothers would go ahead and spend a couple months testing their 1" setup. Probably wouldn't have slowed them down any, but it was worth a shot TonyMoby Grape Racing
