    Bill,

Your response is what I would expect from the old timer crowd which is the very reason its time to weed out the old way of thinking and let the young generation run the show. Before you respond to my post close your eyes and imagine if you had a young girl or boy out on the course about to be t-bone in the corner at full speed!

Don't take it personal Bill and I mean no disrespect but its time for a bunch of old timers to sit down and shut up! the sport needs to advance its not 1960 anymore.

      Reckon I forgot the emoticon.

My vote has always been for round tips. My boats had round tips. Just sayin' the powers at be tend to write too much into a rule.

          Rounded Pickle Rule

The currernt Modified Outboard Rule is unintelligible. If the rule has to be explained for people to understand it, then it is not a good rule. I think that's what Mr. Huson is indirectly suggesting with the comment about templates.

When any rule is eventually adopted, and I think it should be, that rule should be uniform across SO, MOD and PRO. Additionally, there should be an exemption from the requirement if the the pickleforks are collapsible or break-away ones.

Finally, why are runabouts not included in the rule?

Runabouts should be included, no class should be left out runabout or hydro and I agree it should be across the board for all three SO MOD & PRO.

              My 2 cents

              Please see drawing.
Legal tennis ball is 2 1/2" diameter min.
Legal mod hydro pickle is 2" diameter min. 3/4" thick min.

So if I slice a tennis ball in half ... if the tip fits inside the ball, it is too pointy, if the sponson tip is too fat to fit in the ball it is OK - right?

                  Data

Would love to see the scientific data to back up this radius rule. Maybe an impact engineer.

Dan don't get your panties in a bunch.... all personal attacks are welcome from anyone that has actually met me.

                    Sam,
This is a reference to outside dimensions of the tennis ball.. Common sense would prove you correct, assuming a tennis ball is less than 1/4" thick at the walls.
                    Never measured one myself.

This should be a constant work in progress. I've always known what we wear is the most important line of defense. Why aren't we working to improve this area of safety? One idea, integrate padding and flack material into our Kevlar suits. Just like hockey equipment. Remember before you cry about price ask yourself, is there a price too high in the interest of your own saftey? I don't think so!
