  • Issues with Hydroracer

We are not sure why or how but seems like most photos, some avatars etc are missing from the site. We do not know how, we do not know why. While we are hoping that this isn't a symptom of anything bigger, we are working on it and hope to have a resolution.

By all accounts this seems to have started yesterday afternoon, it is possible that a virus was uploaded attached to a/some picture(s). We will continue to search for an answer but it is possible that we will have to reload an old backup to continue.

So.... if we do have to do that, please be aware that your posts from this weekend were not intentionally deleted, it just may be that is the only way we have to save the site.

Upgrade if you can do so $$ I know :-) VB 3.8 is very outdated and full of bugs. Go up to at least 4.2 if you have the resources. FYI its not a symptom of something bigger its a warning signal to get away from the old version of VB which is no longer a stable platform.

I hear you Mike but vbPortal the CMS gateway you are currently using is a dead product. Buy the vBulletin 4.2 Publishing Suite which will give you guys a new CMS gateway. I believe the guy who wrote the code for vbPortal has passed away.

You can also use Drupal as the CMS with VB on the backside. BRF is not using a CMS Gateway they just go straight to the forums.

Dan, I have the license to the 4.0 series already bought and paid for. Just resistant to change. I am looking into it much more seriously now and considering 5.0. You are correct the guy who did VPortal is now deceased.

We are working on making the change, just a tough pill to swallow. I will want to do some sandbox testing first and see if I can get it customized the way I want. It's is now a SERIOUS work in progress. But that won't fix what is done.

I wouldn't spend a lot of time trying to trouble shoot the current issue, do a one rip band aid approach and don't look back. Skip 4.0 and buy the vBulletin 4.2 Publishing Suite which will give you the new CMS Mike wants :-) Take the site offline for few days and play with it for a week or more if needed. The troops will live until you come back :-)

Remember the forums are a stand alone platform you have the choice to take people there using what ever method you want. Some sites go directly to the forums while others use elaborate gateways as in introduction and highlight, splash area. There is no right or wrong way to get folks to the forums. CMS is an option but not the only method. The possibilities are endless. Personally I would use this as an opportunity to rebrand the entire product. Scream and Fly and Powerboat Nation both use the built in CMS portal in the 4.2 VB Suite.

                  Just a thought

I do the same thing. Gets you to all the latest, quick and easy. But I too like the format of this site. I think it is the best format out there. I visit some other non-boating sites that are more like BRF and I do not care for them.

Karl and anyone else check out www.screamandfly.com and www.powerboatnation.com and see what you like with some mods.. let us know what you think.. We have to upgrade to stay current and have more protection from hackers and before this happened we thought it might be time for a change but we want to stay different from the web sites
