My son, Silas, fits into the category he is talking about. We go to only local races. This may change when he is out of school but for now finances are limited. Among the things I help him with is maintaining his car and paying for car insurance. I help at the races with gas money, racing fuel, towing and sometimes entrance fees.
If NBRA was in our area I doubt he would be an APBA member.

$185.00 I paid for Pro so I could run OSY. Same cost if I wanted to just run Mod or Stock. Thats why I said $225 for the super licence wasnt bad
The super license is a real deal. I only plan on running stock next year, but what if somebody come up and says we only have 2 boats for CMR but whosits boat is here, can you run it. I know APBA is expensive, and it all adds up but it is not a major part of the cost. I almost spent that much just for fuel to go to Chowchilla. Racing is costly but it is what we choose to do.

Correct.... If you did that during the season you would pay $50 for a weekend membership. Plus your stock at $185... Now your at $235.00.
I personally don’t think $225.00 is that bad for being able to race in 3 categories, etc. Now, would I love it if it were $100.00, sure I would.
But I think where the problem occurs for a large majority is…
I’m only looking at the APBA Stock category because I have only seen those numbers…
I know what we spend a year on racing (fuel, hotels, entry fees, props, boats, engines, etc) and anyone that races as much or close to as much as we do, may feel the same way. The $225.00 is maybe 2% to 5% of their racing budget? So it does not hurt as much.
What I think we tend to forget is, the LARGE majority of our racers don’t race as much as some of us do.
Alex and other are right in many ways...most of our racers don’t have the resources and that is one of the reasons we keep seeing declining numbers. The numbers that I seem to recall seeing is, half (50%) only race a class less than 2 weekends.
"Ask anyone, I have no friends. I do have some people that put up with me and mostly because they like the rest of my family"
I can't look it up on APBA (too early to renew my membership) and my paperwork has long been filed away; if you could, answer me this: How much did I pay for my APBA card for participating in J, Stock, Mod, Pro, OPC, Inboard and the standard donation to the Historical Society?
