  • Sutherland National Meeting Class Consolidation

Ok, the "Sutherland Plan" for class consolidation failed on a "straw man" conceptual vote to return Stock Outboard to A, B, C, D class structure.

Your elected Commissioners voted as follows:

    Tray Gladkowski - Yes
    Kyle Bahl - Yes
    Steve Wilde - Yes
    Dean Sutherland - Yes
    Jeff Conant - Yes
    Dave Anderson - Yes

    Tom Johnston - No
    Alex Poliakoff - No
    Donny Allen Jr. - No
    Jeff Scheffler - No
    Howie Nichols - No
    Jeff Brewster - No
    Tammy Dawe -No
    Matt Dagostino - No

A vote of yes was a vote to consolidate classes a vote of no was for no change.

This proposal was the closest to passing. All proposals for change failed.

    Thanks,
    Dean Sutherland

Wow! I'm surprised. Dean, I want you to know that all your efforts are appreciated, at least by some. I know you put in many hours and thought into your proposal. I'm not a stock guy any longer but still a boatracer at heart. Jack

      Thanks for the effort, Dean-o.

I am curious. For those that opposed change...what alternative plans were presented to move membership/stock outboard forward?

You have T.J. down for voting "NO" twice. I didn't know he carried THAT much weight.

I think you have to be dead before you get to vote twice in one election.
But I am not sure. they hold the particulars kinda close to the vest and tend to not share that info with downstate independants

                And sooooooooo

                Good try Dean,

Everything you treid to do made sense, it is obviouse we are our own worst enemies. It's possible that the OMC A, the 25XS, and all the other obsolete motors may last longer in competition than all the oblosete motors we used to race.

I guess regroup and try again next year.

Thanks for the attempt, Dean. Don't be discouraged. 6 to 8 is a pretty good show of support for a sport that has resisted change for decades.

                      Not much gripe...

There really was not much gripe at all. I think the "no" already new that any "change" did not have the votes in the room to get passed..

Personally, I think it is same old, same old....everyone KNOWS it is the right thing to do, but no one has the courage to actually do it.

We did not really even get to the details of the plan. I asked for a straw man vote on changing the structure. If that was positive then we would of gone class by class and tackled the specific details. That is the vote that failed 6-8. One Region 7 Commissioner said he agreed and would like to vote for it, but was instructed that he "could not vote yes to any motion that involved class change."

I am not sure where the sport goes now, I think I am done trying. I hope I am wrong and all the "No" votes in the room can come up with some different ideas to grow the sport.

BTW DSR weight was discussed at length......

                      Thanks,
                      Dean Sutherland

                        Don't stop

                        Dean,
many of us believe that there needs to be consolidation. I noticed the vote seemed to be east v. west ( besides three defectors ). I am sorry that nothing happened. Please keep trying and I will continue to support those that fell the same way.

Glad to see Gladkowski is still voting with the left coast block. Dean, thanks for trying. I'm proud of my commisioners for voting to try to get the sport going in the right direction. For those that voted NO let me remind you of the definition of insanity......

Give it another year or two and maybe a few younger commisioners will get elected and then maybe change will happen if anything is left.

                              Not Surprised

                              Dean,

It does not surprise me. You know, "NOTHING" surprises me anymore. I guess the majority feel it is okay to race a handful of the same people each weekend. Maybe they are scared of new competition if we grow the sport.

You are burned out, I am burned out, the politics of APBA have destroyed what was once the best thing going. And that my friend is a shame. Am I being over dramatic ? IMO, nope. If something does not change in the next couple years the future 20 years down the road is looking real bleak for APBA. I guess we need to stack the commission to get anything changed, much like it was done in the past when the sport was thriving.

What the hell is it going to take to see the light ? Oh wait, the light bulb is bright elsewhere.

And I tried to read through the posts on the agenda for stock... holy crap, no wonder..... that is a lot of rules for anyone but the Ed Hearns of the world to read and absorb.

Dean, there is a spot on my trailer if you decide Lucas Oil Raceway is something you want to try.
