    Stan Armstrong Winner...............

I also won the Saddle as a teenager growing up in SSOA but most bizzar story is the year Stan the Man Armstrong won it! I believe the race was at Hartford, CT and a storm moved in. The wind broke a tree branch which dropped on Stan busting his head wide open and nearly killed him.

Thank goodness Stan recovered but if that Saddle could talk it would make for a great book on outboard miscues in the great Northeast over the last half century!

Yes i saw your name on it but didn't notice the date, that had to have been when you were in New Hampshire right? We all know Stan was pretty hardheaded!!!

I believe the year was 1971 and i was a rookie in ASH. I flipped my Hedlund 12 out of 13 races and was the hands down winner of the SADDLE. My family was living in New Hampshire during my New England years as a child.
I remember being so embarrassed by the award that all i remember is everybody laughing! But i was soothed by Clark Maloof's words.......he said 'kid, if this is the worse thing that happens to you in racing then consider yourself fu**ing lucky'. Clark had such a way with words!

Honored to have missed that award

I must say I am very happy to have stayed in my boats most of my races and never got even close to the Saddle Award. Bill Rosado

I won the saddle award in 1993 with only one flip! This was a local race between the PRO Nationals and World Championships. It was a blow-over in my 250ccH at Taunton, MA. It was just like Clark Maloofs blow-over at those same World Championships. The nose went up to about 70 degrees and climbed up about 30-40 feet into the air.... wasn't really a blow-over as much as a lift-off!

Was that X in the lower left for a pick of the blowover? I'd love to see that! I've only been to Tauton one time and enjoyed every minute of it.

It is a great club with a lot of hard workers over the years to keep it going. Thanks to all of them! I may live in NY but New England, SSOA and Region 1 will always be my home. Can't wait til next season. See you all then
