  • Stag Weekend – 2009

As we all know, this yearly ride will never be the same without our friend Kevin. However, I don’t believe Kevin would want it to stop. Just as this past race season was tough for us to get through without seeing our friend smile, laugh or his determination on the course, it will be tough to get back on our sleds together and ride. I know for myself it will be tough to be in the snow and around all the faces that Kevin helped assemble for this yearly event. It brings back a rush of emotions that has me wondering how I will handle it.

With that said, first I would like to know who would like to get together this year. I’ve never been one to lead this sort of thing. Nor have I been a part of this tradition long enough to make the calls. I just think that if it’s going to happen we should start making plans. Obviously this will be a unique year and perhaps some delicate planning needs to take place. I would be happy to help plan this event, but would defiantly appreciate some help from some of the vets… Let me know your thoughts.

          Nice

Nicely put Josh. Kevin was a huge part of the recent stag events. He was a great person that will be missed but more important will be remembered for a long time to come. I try to make the stag weekend at least every other year and was planning on going this year if it comes to fruition.

I am glad you started this post. I have been thinking about it but then keep putting it off.

I am pretty sure the original stag weekend wild ones are still planning on attending (Jim, Don, Howards,Frank, glasses?). Lets get input from them on the location.

I was thinking to go back to Grand Marais.

Howard has brought up making a memorial plaque to put on the trail. I think he has a laser cutter in his garage (how cool is that). I know Neal has some stainless that we could use or we could get some diamond plate. I need to talk to Howard to see what software will work but we were thinking about the #4 with the halo.

In the past we have scheduled the weekend of the bud pole shootout which is usually the weekend before the superbowl and the weekend or two after the national meeting. That would make it February 7th I think.

I know that there was some talk this summer about doing a plaque on the corner. I went up there this summer and tried to see if there was anyone who could help tell us if it was OK or what we need to do to do it. I didn't get a answer from anyone but I will try again.
I know that in our snowmobile club we can't put anything on a tree. It all must be staked into the ground.
I don't think that stag weekend will go away but I do think it will change, but I don't know how. I will try in my part to keep it going as long as I can, I hope others will too. It's a great way for us to be together in the winter as seeing most of you in the summer is just to short.

Lou Howard here, Geoff Frank and I are, in I think Grand Marais is a good idea and not too far from Munising to put up a memorial assumming we have one done. See the thread I am going to start (right after this post) to solicit Ideas Frank Geoff and I will get materials and build.

Lou, that 's a great idea. Del, Ken goll and Warnock are U.P. for the Stag weekend.

                    Looks at this time we have 7 on the list;

                    Chris Duder Dudeck - 29H, Smokin Kenny Goll - 23W, Dave Spud Hemp - 62W, Davey Spud Lite - 18W, Tom Kat Kargus - 10W, Del The Spider Snyder - 31W, Warbs - 64W.

My thoughts were Munising offered better amenities, motel and resturants. Our short run to and on Grand Island was fun and a nice change.

We'll where ever the Gang wants to go!

As far as nights go, I think typically we are all together Friday and Saturday nights… correct?

Does everyone prefer to stay in one hotel (town) both nights?

I think we have about 12 confirmed at this point. We should start thinking of a date. I think Jay said something about Feb. 7th. I personally would prefer the 21st… but I can make the 7th work if that is decided.

Next we should pick a place. Warbs mentioned Munising. I personally prefer Grand Marais (cause I can ride from our cabin in Brimley). Plus, I know the Ross camp is within striking distance. But again I can make either work.

What are other people thinking? Does anyone have contacts to the hotels?

                        Well....................

Deap subject but anyhow, as far as where, Grand Marais is definatly more centraly located to where the rides go but Munnising is alot better for acomodations and stuff. Is there another spot in the general area that would also suit our needs, Newberry, Trout lake, Seeny, you get my drift. Also what about the upper lower, Indian River, Gaylord, lots of good trails around those areas and things are closer. The Wild Ones would go to diferent places year to year but with the Wis, guys coming we should be fair to them for travel. I am not sure how they descided where to go but you where talking five maybe eight people back in he day.

                          Stag Week End

The original group, Betka, Brinkman, Fox, Howard, McCourtie,Miller, O'Brein (deceased), White. We went to Jim's dad's house on the Titabawasee River and rode the river and lakes of that system. Most riding straight axle 340 TXL's and driving them like they were BU's (20H and Rinker now that's rac'ng). With a top speed of 80 some mph, we had a great time. It has progressed from that. There are a few of us old guys that still meet a couple of times a year, you don't even need a brand new sled, becuase we go through the bumps. As long as there is enough snow, the roads look good to us. Anyone up for it let me know. There is a chance of meeting us on the weekend of Jan 15th-17th somewhere up north.
Be safe, the guy you meet coming the other way might be Don!!!
                          Always,

the 7th looks like it will be the only weekend that will work for the fox family. Jaydens birthday is the 18th and Jim and Cindy will be in florida the 21st. So our vote for the final date is the 7th. (Hopefully that is really ok josh)

We would like to suggest going back to strongs or trout lake. It looks like there will be good snow this year and we think staying further east will be better. not because its a further drive the the cheese heads but because of obvious other reasons.

                              what do you all think?
I will book rooms as soon as we decide everything which need to be within the next week so let hear it.
