  • Mark 75 Direct reverse engine

I have a customer who brought me a Mark 75 direct reverse engine-I know all about these and the problem is.

1-he wants it fixed but of course does not want to pay anything to fix it (its a family airloom and oh how he wishis it to run again-no compression #1-its been welded once already)

2-I have no intention of fixing it for free so my question to someone is-is this engine of any value to collectors, it has the controls and all the parts are there and apears to be in good shape other than it does not run properly

I told him he may be better off finding someone who would want it as a colletors item and save himself the money of rebuidling it, at least my time to tear it down and tell him how much it will cost so he can say he does not want to pay that much to fix it.

    Any sugestions anyone.

The most common price for a running Mk75 with controls is about $300

A good piston and new rings could run you $150 after shipping.

      Yeah I know

I know Sam, but you know, try and tell people time is money and parts cost money also but they think you can fix it for 100 bucks and it will run like new and never have any problems.

I went to Merc school on those down in Sarasota in 1959. They were such nice motors.
Now I live in Maine. The old timers up heah refer to them as dockbustahs... ayuhhh. Folks from Conn, if they can remember, call them dock-wreckers.

I like to refer to them as a POS and usually offer $75 bucks for em.

My good pal Larry Roberts, who operates out of a hole in his basement called the "Little Merc Shoppe" collects them........... and puts em on racks. Mostly he gets them for free.

If your "customer" thinks he/she has such a true gem tell him/her to hang it in their living room from a beam!

Please... let us share a laugh here :

              My question has been answered

I have enough information now to tell the customer, spend it or have a nice day, just thought I would see if they where collectible, like most things like that more memories than money.
