Ok siince we're on the topic...

No i am not an advicate of any political party. I've voted both sides before...i'll even admit (though i know i shouldn't) i voted for our current president. But this was an interesting article i read about our Mr. Bush conserning this topic...

Bush Loves Ecology -- At Home
    by Rob Sullivan

The 4,000-square-foot house is a model of environmental rectitude.
Geothermal heat pumps located in a central closet circulate water through pipes buried 300 feet deep in the ground where the temperature is a constant 67 degrees; the water heats the house in the winter and cools it in the summer. Systems such as the one in this "eco-friendly" dwelling use about 25% of the electricity that traditional heating and cooling systems utilize.

A 25,000-gallon underground cistern collects rainwater gathered from roof runs; wastewater from sinks, toilets and showers goes into underground purifying tanks and is also funneled into the cistern. The water from the cistern is used to irrigate the landscaping surrounding the four-bedroom home. Plants and flowers native to the high prairie area blend the structure into the surrounding ecosystem.

No, this is not the home of some eccentrically wealthy eco-freak trying to shame his fellow citizens into following the pristineness of his self-righteous example. And no, it is not the wilderness retreat of the Sierra Club or the Natural Resources Defense Council, a haven where tree-huggers plot political strategy.

This is President George W. Bush's "Texas White House" outside the small town of Crawford.

Yes, the same George W. who believes arsenic and drinking water might not be such a bad combo, the same man who reneged on his campaign promise to lower carbon dioxide emissions from power plants, the same man who is doing everything in his power to fling open the Alaskan Natural Wildlife Refuge to oil drilling.

How does the President reconcile an eco-friendly abode for his own family with his persistent stand against anything that smacks of an environmentally friendly agenda for the nation as a whole? The answer to that perplexing question is a real mystery.

Perhaps sound ecological practices are only for those who can afford them: as a self-proclaimed strict constructionist of the U.S. Constitution, Bush must be aware that clean air and clean water are not guaranteed in that glorious do***ent. Perhaps in Bush's Brave New Corporate World, clean natural resources are merely commodities in a free-market economy: if you can pay for them, fine; if not, tough. The rest of us will just have to put up with more toxic dumps and more public lands being turned over to logging, mining and oil companies...

Also check out this out...this is the REAL INCONVINENT TRUTH...

At the risk of helping Mr. Hern's Cause...showing these articles just show's that American Politics is most all BS. Whether constervative or liberal. Iraq war or Global warming. The issue of GW just gives one side of the poltical stream to ***** at the the other. It's all politics and who's getting voted for and which topic will help the other politian's numbers. Right now American politics sucks...and the American public is only half aware of it.

Those mercury filled curly bulbs someone mentioned?
My power company claims that over 90 percent of my electricity comes from coal fired power plants. Their data claims that over the life of the bulb. More mercury is put into the air powering an incandescent bulb, than goes into the new bulbs. On top of that more mercury goes into an old style bulb like in your shop.
I mostly like them because my electric bill went down over 30 bucks a month
        Dana,
You forgot the Bush holdings in the largest corporation in defense industry.
Do you think that has something to do with getting rid of the war profit tax, just before starting wars in 2 country's ?

In the NW, it's Hydro from dams.

MHM sells Green Tags; "Green Tags can be purchased at the lift ticket window for just $2 - a voluntary contribution which helps offset the greenhouse gases a car produces in a day trip to the mountain."

3 of the high speed quads (those take the most electricity) at Mt Hood Meadows are run completely on Green power from BPA, solar and wind powered only. We purchase a $20 Green Tag for our season passes. I think it's more marketing than anything, but if it feels good, do it.

The Willamette River at Newberg is going to be pretty swift this year! You'll pick up at least 2mph on the backstretch

And, we may not have to wade through 40 yards of mud to get to the water at Lawrence

                    I agree

I agree with Ed and Joe here.
Also, I'm so fed up with the daily news(from the liberal drive-by media) lecture about global warming/climate change! It's all a bunch of NONSENSE!

The Earth's climate has changed countless times over it's history. Suddenly we (humans) see a tiny trend over the past fifty years and so many people think the sky is falling down! Gimme a break!

Don't get me wrong, I want a clean environment as much as the next guy. But let's clean up for the right reason and motivation.

You aren't "supposed" to . I still can't figure out how all those empty beer cans get spread all over under the chair, must be the squirrels . No ski area in the USA promotes drinking on the ski lifts.

Do you drink while or before you race your boat? You can drink in the lodge, then get on the chair lift, they like it when you buy their overpriced booze.

PS- the wind power is super,- and on the right track!
Things haven't changed that much, except for them darned snowboarders, you still see things drunk and smoked on the lifts nowadays
