The First Turn

The problem with the first turn was no one's fault. There were at least six maybe eight drivers that went into the turn ALL IN A STRAIGHT LINE. It was scary to even see from the bank (yes, I didn't make the elim's either). There was a couple of rollers that appeared right in the turn itself that pushed everyone to the right in succession. Nobody was "driving over their head" or chopping, they were all vets going into it, and I would say the caliber of the drivers in that heat PREVENTED a much larger disaster from happening. I saw some of the best CSH racing this weekend in my 15 years racing C Stock.

Just for movie trivia buffs: Why is the James Bond "Diamonds Are Forever" Mustang Mach 1 scene a trivia question?

I suffer from an extremley short attention span. However, I've read this thread several times and I still can't find the actual trivia question. The only question I can find is the question asking why the trivia question IS a trivia question. WHAT'S THE QUESTION?

I always think I'm being clear:

What is special, different, or unique about the Mustang Mach 1 scene in "Diamonds Are Forever" that only a movie trivia buff would know about, or that a very keen person would perceive?

I can't say too much or I'll give away the answer. But I'll give you an example of what it's not. The boat jump scene in "Live and Let Die" set a record at that time for the longest boat jump. Bond fans and movie trivia buffs would know this. The Mustang scene in "Diamonds Are Forever" is different in that you don't need to be a Bond fan or a movie trivia buff to learn what's special, different, or unique about the scene if you're watching carefully.

I don't want to build this up too much. If no one knows and I have to give the answer some of you will think "so what?". THAT'S WHY IT'S CALLED TRIVIA!

Lane? What lane? Things aren't always as they appear. Nobody on the race course had a problem with either of those first turns. If you want clearly defined lanes .....GO BOWLING!

His car was too wide to fit into a narrow alley, so he flips his car onto two wheels in order to fit thru. Kinda like what Shannon did.
He goes into the tight alley on two wheels. Yet somehow, dispite the narrow walls surrounding the car, he manages to flip the car onto the other two wheels before he leaves the narrow alley.
Was that it?
BTW, I LOVE that car. I've always wanted one... I'm stuck with a mini-van. *sniffle*

What happened to the guy in lane #2 of the first picture? They look ready to bite the dust too.

The other boat that looked like it was going to bite the dust too was Joel Weigel. He did suffer damage to his boat, the middle of the deck right in front of the windshield. He made it back out for the restart and won the heat to only find out he jumped the gun.

Yes, that's the right answer. I think it's called a "break in continuity". The camera shows the Mustang from the rear as it enters the narrow alley on the right wheels. Then the camera angle switches to the front and shows the Mustang exiting the alley on its left wheels. But your brain tricks you. You see the same geometric shape entering and exiting the alley and you think everything is normal. I must have watched this scene 007 times or more and never realized the error.

With the photos above, our three-dimensional brains are studying two-dimensional pictures trying to make sense of it. Your brain tricks you.

The way I interpreted the wreck was that everyone had lanes. Jeff had the inside, Joel was trying for the lane right outside him and right inside of Ian which it looks like Ian was giving room for. Outside of that was Shannon being squezed tight but could have come down off of Ryan's boat and possibly saved it, in the mean time Joel was loosing traction in the spray and hit the back of Shannon's motor tilting him just enough to have his outside chine dig a bit too much and thus crash.

Wheres my primer bulb and hose!! Couldn't get the mower started tonight and remembered you needed it to race at Lock Haven!!

Now i can't cut the grass this week............That may be a good thing after all the bad karma at Lock Haven i would probably chop my foot off or worse yet run over Rocky.

That Primer bulb had a gaping hole in it. After the weekend when I was draining the tank I had to bend the hose a certain way and gas started pouring all over the place. That water in my gas probably didn't help any! I owe you one, Thanks! I'll get you a new OMC one, those lawn mower primers don't seem to hold up, you should see my lawn!
