OK, Ive heard that those have a pretty aggressive gear ratio available in the fishing lower, so on a wild guess Id think its the houseing to narrow it down to a single part. [I dont really know tho]

That's the answer I was looking for. The Martin 200 had a removable nose cone -- you can barely see the seam in the photo I took. You could switch between a blunt nose cone and a torpedo style nose cone. So it was very easy and inexpensive to change the engine from recreational to racing.

Does anyone have pictures of both? (I don't).

Those also had not reeds, not a rotory valve but poppets to control crankcase pressure. A fieind bought & restored one. He found all needed parts, redid everything but doesnt have the cone. It has some radical lookin square ports.

Actually there were 3 separate versions of the Martin 200. This is the regular fishing version. The first race version was on the same basic length tower, but had a larger exhaust opening. The second race version had a dramatically shorter tower and fully above water exhaust outlet like the racing Mercs. Both race versions had slightly different porting and intake valve timing, possibly slightly different heads from the fishing motor. Only the 2 race versions were approved in APBA Stock.

Too close to bed time for me to dig up the pics; tomorrow if I remember

over on Boatracingfacts.com, you will find a lot of pictures and stories about Marshall and his innovations in boatracing. He was the Bass player in the Tn. three. He was also the road mgr. for Johnny.

I used to run a Quincy with a Grant downhousing and fuel tank built in back in the 60's.

I think Duke Johnson has or had one of the Miss Sue boats and Bernie Vanosdale has one of the Ring of Fire runabouts.

Marshall came to Depue many times and raced there.
