  • A Potpourri of Photos

Like a man with no name, this particular thread has no theme. It's just a collection of "whatever". Feel free to add whatever boat racing shots float your boat.

    In the photo below:

    1) Who is this man?
    2) Why is he smiling so much?
    3) Who has his back to the camera?

If I told you where this photo was taken, it would be way too easy...

He's smiling because he just heard about the half price sale on pork roll sandwiches at the concession stand.

            Two Words Johnny

            Two Words Johnny: Michael Phelps.

You posted a reply without giving the answer and almost came in second to Scott. At the summer olympics Michael Phelps won his 7th gold medal because the Serbian swimmer in front of him lifted his head at the last moment and lost to Michael Phelps by 2 cm, about the width of your finger.

And you're both right. I think Ian knew the answer all along, he just didn't want to show off.

Stay tuned for a follow-up question.

                    Just Look at the Grin

And Johnny reels in another one.

I didn't actually see Craig do anything, but I turned and snapped this shot when I heard the commotion.

Just look at the big grin on Craig's face.

                      A Question for Inboarders

A question for inboarders. What is the purpose of the yellow warning/beacon light on top of the cab?

(And just to be clear, this is a legitimate question. I didn't Photoshop the light in, and it's not a patrol/safety boat behind the race boat. The light is attached to the boat -- it's in every photo.)

Maybe he/she uses the boat to plow snow with in the winter? All the trucks with plows have to have them up here.

the lights are only required for the Unlimited Light class. They are turned on if the boat stalls to signal to the judges stand that the driver is ok and to add another visual aid to get the attention other the drivers.

                              Teach Me Something

                              Spencer,

Since your response seems, um, the most credible, here's my follow-up question. I'm unfamiliar with inboard crossover classes. My photo of The Crush was taken at an APBA Inboard race at Cambridge, MD, and Unlimited Lights were not running, but Grand National Hydro (GNH) was on the schedule. Are Unlimited Lights and APBA GNH crossover classes like APBA Stock Outboard C Stock Hydro and APBA PRO category OSY-400? Or is it similar to running a step down, like running a 302 Yamato with a restricter plate to qualify a CSH for 20SSH?
