  • Enough of this level playing field garbage. And all these stupid classifications like "super stock" this or "xs" that. Put a cubic inch limit out there for the traditional A B C D E F classes for hydros and boats that are considered 'runabouts'. And if your 22 cu inch briggs and stratton (ex snow blower motor) stocker won't keep up with the 22 inch BuRP because it overheats, then petition the SORC to allow you to cool the Piece Of S- - -! And the SORC should consider the request. And, if the B&S flywheel is prone to explode... then the SORC will have to ban the POS or specify a scatter-shield. Let competition rule. And NOW, when we finally have a new D Stock motor, thanks to Sid Bass, the 'rule makers' say it has to run like a submarine. Makes no sense at all. Why is that? I've asked the question about a year ago and still no intelligible response. So what's the 1" below do besides make Sids gear housing a submarine? Well... it's supposed to "level the playing field".... CRAP!! Let competition level the field. On dyno tests, the 44XS (there's that stupid 'xs' designation again) and the fat-Hat-su run about neck and neck. But, that's not really the issue is it. Nope... Somewhere, the push is to dump the 'D Stock' class, and shove the little 44XS into D Mod, in (get this) STOCK form. YGTBSMe! So. Next I suppose we will be stuffing restrictor plates in the already NON-Stock Mod motors so the little 44XS can keep up. Give me a break. The simple fact that some folks are seriously playing with racing an X-lawnmower B&S four stroke in a 25mph class ought to be a wake up call. My ten year old is totally bored at 25mph!! Let the kids run A hydro with a restrictor plate just for safety sake. Above that class, let the cubic inch be the deciding factor, not the motor model. And that goes for the 'new' hot rod too. And another thing, dump the stupid rules which say 'stock' engines need to have factory colors etc. The factory's have long since given us the finger. ,.!..

      Alex,

      1) If you ask what my definition of Stock Outboard racing is, it is just that "Level playing fields". It is about close competition and engines that have little to no modifications and have specifications that must be met.

      2) Instead of a Cubic Inches, maybe we should put a Cubic Centimeters limit on it. Oh wait, that's right...we already have that lalready, it's called the PRO category. Maybe it would be a better fit for you?

Additionally, if you want to let every and any engine that meets a displacement into the classes, how do you propose we keep up with all the specs of any and every engine and who would want to be the inspectors for all these various engines. Wait, your going to tell me that that's the beauty of only have a displacment limit and everything else goes? Sounds a little closer to Mod. You ideal category doesn't sound like Stock at all.

I'm sure Region 1 could use you on the SORC as well to deal with all the specs for scatter shields and water pick ups....again doesn't seem like Stock to me?

      3) It's simply someone trying to create a lost cost option for a beginner class to potentially attract more members. No one said it will be implemented, but at least people are taking their own time and money to try something.

      4) We currently have a restricted A's or AXS's, they are what the J-category is using today.

It sounds to me like you need to go race mod. For Stock Outboard to be successful it must be an essentially one motor to one class category. If you think Stock can succeed with a simple cubic inch limitation than you don't understand what Stock Outboard is really all about. Apples vs. Apples Oranges vs. Oranges.

        • Bittu...

... actually called and talked to me for a long time last week.
He's in Milwaukee these days, married, and about 30-40 lbs bigger than we all last remember him. He is going to 'observe' this year and maybe race again in 2008. If his past is any indication, he will be VERY competitive from the get-go. But his wife saw some photos and is steering him away from SO. We'll see what happens... but his current idea is SST45 !!
          Welcome back!

Any "safety" issues on the table for 2008 such as in CSH last year?

What are the dates for the national meeting this year?

                      • For the sake of safety should we make the 20 class the same height as the C class?

                        • sigh.... I just don't understand the mentality of someone feeling that stock outboard should change everything it is based on. To then become what is already an existing catagory

Stock Outboard is all about a level playing field.

True parity is one motor per class.

                            • For the record... I will NOT be submitting the 20 height should be lowered for the sake of saftey.
