What a negative attitude. You must be bitter about something.

        Alexandria

Last time I drove there, Alex was west of the mighty Mississippi!!

And it is along drive (10 hours+) from Atlanta and longer for most of the Florida drivers. I love the race site, but we had trouble getting good fields of boats for the USTS races, because the bulk of our drivers are based in the midwest and we only drew about half of them. And nobody from the Northeast.

I think Alex would be a great site for a big race near a holiday. It is too hot in the summer! How cold does it get in the winter? Could you race in January or February?

David L-6 can probably tell what the weather is like in Jan and Feb but by where it is on the Map is probably colder then the Middle and southern part of Fl. Its a 17 hour plus drive for me and 1105 miles from where I live in Va

The person that started this thread johnml390 (John Matthews, boat number L-390) can tell you what the weather is like there too. He lives just a few minutes from the lake.

As far as I'm concerned, it's too cold to race anywhere in Louisiana in January or February. I'm not looking forward to wading water at Alex. in March.

The AOF used have the Southern Championships race about the 3rd or 4th weekend of April every year. Water temperature was a very good reason to stay in your boat (and a good reason to not wade out past knee deep! ) I was glad when we started racing Memorial Day weekend each year instead of in April.

We had an NBRA race at Alex this past April and more than one person wore their kevlar all day, both days. I went to the nearest K-Mart and bought a cheap pullover sweat shirt Saturday afternoon.

July and August can be miserable due to the temp. + the humidity we have here. September too some years. It was 102 in Shreveport yesterday. At 5:30 p.m. it was still 100. Predictions are for the same thing the next 2 or 3 days.

May and June are the best months to have a race at Alex. Preferably mid May to mid June. October wouldn't be a bad choice either.

We did a lot of weather research on this site before bidding. Would you believe that the average temp at Alexandria, LA is only about 3-5 degrees cooler than Ocoee? We had scheduled the race for around March 17 but we are trying to move it up one week end to the last week end in March which should make it comparable to racing in Florida. (I have been racing in Crescent City, FL at 60 degrees and been colder than I have in 20 below here in Iowa).
Howard, I will rephrase my statement about Louisiana being in the middle of the country. I would say it is in the middle of the South. How's that? Equal distance for East coasters and West Coasters.
However, I live smack in the middle of the country, and have put many races on in the Omaha, NE area. Don't get a lot of drivers there either on average because everyone says it is too far.
However, look at a race in Bakersfield, Indio, Ocoee, Whitney Point, Wakefield...the MAJORITY of the racers at each of these sites are the drivers who are the closest. A few stragglers and super racers show at all those sites. Having a race in the middle of the south in winter gives everyone equal chance to compete against new competition. Not everyone will drive, but maybe a few more will. Being in the middle of the South means that if you DO decide to compete in a winter nationals that is not near home, at least the cost for gas is only half of what it would have been if the race had been on either coast.
I am sorry to have upset you, Howard. We have been friends for too long to let a little mapquest interferre with that.

                Center Would Be...

                Omaha, NB.

Real nice place to race, I have been there a few times for the AOF Nat's. Carter Lake Iowa on one side, Omaha, NB on the other. Plenty of pit space, lots of hotels, Casinos, bars, night clubs, etc. Plenty to do for all. Nice water to.

An established race course, USTS races there each spring, AOF Nat's there a couple times, proven adequete facilities. And it sits right near the center of the U.S.

Now then, who thinks it would be hard to find a race course in the middle of the U.S. so that it is fair travel for all ?

Alex is a nice place to race to. Hope I decide toattend this next winter Nat's, time will tell.

That's just a vicious rumor that was probably started by some Yankee or old hippie.

How ya doing Terry? I didn't know you knew how to use a computer.

Should I refrain from any mention of races too far for me to drag my ragged trailer to? What about local races when my health doesn't allow? Let me know what the official policy is and I will comply.
