Current events
First ,I'm a huge supporter of this race site . I wonder however due to current events if an altrenate site for this year would be better. I would think that most of the outlaying areas will have there hands full dealing with the hurricane damage. Unless the media is blowing this all out of proportion again. I would like to see this site gain popularity with everyone. Just think that we should see this wonderfull area after they have had a chance to recover.

Alex is OK.
Read this post by johnml390. He lives very close to the race site.

Still wouldn't hurt to have a back up site.... You never know what may happen....
OMC FE/SE powerhead parts for sale. Kurcz ported block, Mod 50 pistons and cylinder head, exhaust, etc.

Pineville Area
I've talked with some folks in Pineville and things are not as bad there as in other parts of LA. However. a thing to consider is the availability of motel rooms in the Alexandria/Pineville area . A lot of folks are existing in motels and will probably be doing so for 6 or 8 months and longer. Alexandria is an area that could support people attempting to work in New Oleans and commute so rooms may be tied up for quite a while.

That was my concern also
That was my main concern also. I realize that N o is quite a ways away. When I spoke with Mark he indicated that you can hardly get around so many people homeless and staying around. Lets face It 8 months is a long way off but the task at hand wwill take much much longer. my thoughts are first priority to the homeless residents of LA and construction workers . I cant wait to come back and race with you all BUT this might not be the best time to do it. I'm sure David and Mark can keep us posted on how things really are going. wouldnt hurt to have alt plans. David , Thanks for the message. Keep in touch and I wish all the best.

Hurricane Katrina Memorial Regatta
maybe we could dedicate the race, if it happens, to all those who were devistated by Hurricane Katrina? This could also give us "boat racers" another chance to help those who have lost so much in this tragedy.Daren

Concerning the winter nationals in March. All things are being considered. Basically there was little or no damage in Alex. It is a litle bit west and a ways north of the hurricane path. We have been working with about 8 motels who are giving us rates, and so far none have indicated or are afraid of no rooms by March. However, as the race committee we want what is best for everyone and certainly don't want to be associated with a race that is a failure. We will continue to monitor the situation as the season progresses. It is early.
Darren: AOF is dedicating all of the proceeds of the AOF part of the Jesup race to the victims of Katrina. We will probably have a boat racer, like the Heberts, distributing anything that we take in.
(Another reason for you to come to Jesup!

did you guys see that Carl Edwards, who won the Nascar Busch race on Sat and Kyle Busch, who won the Nascar Nextel Cup race on Sunday (his 1st cup win), BOTH donated their winnings to the Hurricane Katrina relief effort, along with Nascar also donating heavily to the cause!Daren

Alexandria is in the center of the usa?

One of the last two week ends in March.
Lots of good things planned on a perfect race site.
Center of the good ol USA with equal driving distance for all.
Let's see Seattle to Alex is not quite as far as Seattle to New York where the Stock nationals were a couple of years ago! I guess we're making progress!

But you are right Howard, the center of the US with the least driving distance from all EXTREMES would be eastern Nebraska or western Iowa. Move there, start a club and put in the bid

you will always get a bigger turnout to the races, if it is held east of the Mississippi, due to their being more racers out that way and a shorter drive for them.........logistics! You also have to consider the part of the country the Winter Nat's are being held at. I do not think WA would be a good spot for a race in March. Hell, it SNOWED at Bakersfield for the 2002 Winter Nat's...
I think it would be cool to have a major race in Oklahoma....Daren
