  • Tabor City, NC and Wilson, NC

The info I currently have on these 2 race sites is as follows:

Tabor City, NC is a new race site Steve Dunn has worked hard in the off season to secure. It is on the North Carolina/South Carolina border. It is a private lake, well-protected, no lake rental, they have their own concession stand lined up, campground across the street, some camping available in the pits, hotels in Loris, SC 7 miles away and Whiteville, NC 18 miles away, cannot pit along the water but can cart boats to one landing to launch, with a second landing a short distance away to come into for inspection, Steve has turn boats and rescue squad lined up, the site has a dock with electricity so we might not need to use the generator, Steve has an announcer and inspector lined up, and spectators are anticipated. The Mod Committee awarded the North American Championships for DMH and DMR to Tabor City on April 12-13, 2008. Steve reports the date cannot be changed and unfortunately he was not aware the date for Wilson had been changed. There is a potential for a Fall race in Tabor City as well.

Wilson, NC - April 19-20, 2008 - this date is going to be changed, we will let you know shortly what the new date is. John Runne has worked hard to secure this race site 3 years in a row. Stock/Mod/J Class Southeast Divisionals have been awarded to WIlson.

Here is our dilemma. CVRA cannot front the sanction/insurance funds for 2 races back-to-back weekends and Tabor City cannot compete with the Wilson divisionals for attendance. If we are able to obtain sponsorship to cover the lake rental we are charged, Wilson can remain a viable race site. If we have to pay lake rental, we cannot continue to race in Wilson. Without the Denton, MD race, we do not recoup the money we lose at every race and the balance in the club account is dwindling each year. Without your support, CVRA will eventually cease to exist. Attendance has been low at both Wilson, NC and Sharptown, MD. We need strong support at these race sites and any new race sites we acquire to continue racing in Region 4.

We need to know what you want/need in order to continue racing in Region 4.

Would you support a race in Tabor City, NC and/or Wilson, NC? Why? Why not?
If the date of Wilson can be changed at least a few weeks later, would you support both races?
Will you support Sharptown, MD this year? Why? Why not?
Is your decision to support a race based mainly on distance you have to drive or some other factor(s)? What factor(s)?

Please give us your thoughts. We need your input to firm up the schedule for Region 4 races as soon as possible. If you don't want to post here, please feel free to email me at jls@nixonvan.com.

Janet, I will try to move the date of Wilson to the following weekend or back into May. In either case I want to support Tabor City, I have heard from many sources this is a beautiful site with great support from the town. Good job Steve Dunn!

Stock Outboard is all about a level playing field.

True parity is one motor per class.

      Team Lyons/Doerle

I am firmly planning Wilson whatever the date is, made it to the first one and missed a day due to weather and water, but party alone was worth it! Decided to bag it in '07 and apparently missed a great time, so I'll be there for '08. Tabor City- if there's a committment from other people in my classes then here we come, I know this sounds selfish but driving that far to run with 3 boats ain't fun and it doesn't earn any points either. Sharptown- I'll be there no matter when it is and it doesn't matter who shows up, one of my favorite races, so laid back and done early, great race. Besides, where else can you race go karts on a slick track with Difebo, Kench, Jennings, Runne, Bowman, Gallagher, Danforth, and Lyons?!

        Lake Tabor

We were planning on Lake Tabor as we were told it was a replacement for Wilson. If Wilson goes to the following month we stand a good chance of making both if I can talk my wife into pulling the second trailer. We just outgrew a 20' enclosed trailer by 2 boats. Maybe she will let me weld a Rick Bird boat shelf on top of her expedition

We will try for both events but can't make any promises yet.
Looking forward to racing in N.C.!

I will not be able to support the Tabor City race. It is too far for us to travel during the school session.

I will be at Wilson and Sharptown.

In my opinion Sharptown has been suffering from the north by the conflict with the race in Ontario taking all the New England racers and from the south with the misconception that it is a short course like Denton; I asked the racers from the south why they did not come to Sharptown and they told me they didn't come to Sharptown because it was a super short course. They are sadly misinformed.

Prices for everything are going up; even chocolate is up 18% this year. Maybe it is time to raise entry fees.

                Carolina Races

The more races in N/S Carolina the Better! If John can get the dates moved back a few more weeks after Tabor that work out best, either way I'm supporting both! Dustin Top Gun Racing

                  Races

We plan on making all 3 Region 4 races, but that will depend on the dates.
Us not being has nothing to do with any off the race site's it's all work related....
Alex works every other weekend, so him being there will vary. AJ works every Saturday but has a great boss who will work with his racing schedule. Me I don't work weekends and am willing to drive down south just to hang out and help. Just wating on your dates to finish planning our season....

DVORA will be moving Millville to the third weekend of May leaving Wilson available for the first weekend of May and Tabor City where it is. This will be a 2 week span between all races, and the kick off of the multi-region 20SSH Pond cup series starting at Millville.

I also was thinking about asking to bring the Pond Cup series to Sharptown if it is still going to happen. That could help with attendance.

That puts Millville the week before Franklin, PA, but doesn't present any problem to me.
