The info I currently have on these 2 race sites is as follows:
Tabor City, NC is a new race site Steve Dunn has worked hard in the off season to secure. It is on the North Carolina/South Carolina border. It is a private lake, well-protected, no lake rental, they have their own concession stand lined up, campground across the street, some camping available in the pits, hotels in Loris, SC 7 miles away and Whiteville, NC 18 miles away, cannot pit along the water but can cart boats to one landing to launch, with a second landing a short distance away to come into for inspection, Steve has turn boats and rescue squad lined up, the site has a dock with electricity so we might not need to use the generator, Steve has an announcer and inspector lined up, and spectators are anticipated. The Mod Committee awarded the North American Championships for DMH and DMR to Tabor City on April 12-13, 2008. Steve reports the date cannot be changed and unfortunately he was not aware the date for Wilson had been changed. There is a potential for a Fall race in Tabor City as well.
Wilson, NC - April 19-20, 2008 - this date is going to be changed, we will let you know shortly what the new date is. John Runne has worked hard to secure this race site 3 years in a row. Stock/Mod/J Class Southeast Divisionals have been awarded to WIlson.
Here is our dilemma. CVRA cannot front the sanction/insurance funds for 2 races back-to-back weekends and Tabor City cannot compete with the Wilson divisionals for attendance. If we are able to obtain sponsorship to cover the lake rental we are charged, Wilson can remain a viable race site. If we have to pay lake rental, we cannot continue to race in Wilson. Without the Denton, MD race, we do not recoup the money we lose at every race and the balance in the club account is dwindling each year. Without your support, CVRA will eventually cease to exist. Attendance has been low at both Wilson, NC and Sharptown, MD. We need strong support at these race sites and any new race sites we acquire to continue racing in Region 4.
We need to know what you want/need in order to continue racing in Region 4.
Would you support a race in Tabor City, NC and/or Wilson, NC? Why? Why not?
If the date of Wilson can be changed at least a few weeks later, would you support both races?
Will you support Sharptown, MD this year? Why? Why not?
Is your decision to support a race based mainly on distance you have to drive or some other factor(s)? What factor(s)?
Please give us your thoughts. We need your input to firm up the schedule for Region 4 races as soon as possible. If you don't want to post here, please feel free to email me at jls@nixonvan.com.
