Marathon Mania reigns in Hay-vrill. Not only was the Haverhill River Run the second longest Marathon in the country to Top O, it was also the second roughest to Top O!! Due to all of the recent rains, the mighty Merrimack River was flowing at its strongest current of the year making the conditions challenging to say the least and in the end it was the Michigan Marathoners that prevailed to the delight of the crowd.

DSR - Nick Ladd, Matt Ladd, Doug Pearsall
CSR - Mark Kurz, Tim Noury, Nate Lord
ASR - Howie Pickerall, Ted O'Neil, Nick Nowak
25SSR - Jim Howe, Jeff Brewster

All kinds of stories to be told from Mike Akerstrom demolishing a DSR to Mark Kurz losing his bottom fin in a log. The log was later retrieved with the fin solidly stuck for life!

The Ladd's are the new local hero's and will probably be a little woozy tommorrow morning!!

Congratulations Pop! And you thought that that was supposed to be your last runabout ride.....not Guess you're second guessing the sale of that boat now. Good to see that some REAL rollin' up runabouts ran the marathon. Reminds me of the EORC marathon glory days.

I cannot say thank you enough. I had a great time and met some of the most kind hearted people in my life. It is amazing how well you get treated out in region 1 and how well a race program is handled and ran also. I also was lucky enough to see Billy Allen and his father, Racer Allen held my boat for the marathon start and that was a pretty big deal for me also. I had a great time!!

                          Great Races in Haverhill

The members of the Crescent Yacht Club want to thank all the racers for making the trip to Haverhill this year. SSOA ran another great event with races going off like clockwork. The crowds love the Marathon and spectators on both sides of the river enjoyed the short course show. We are already looking at tide tables for 2012 and another great weekend of racing in Haverhill.

Congratulations Howie on the win. Brings back memories of the old days. To bad EORC is on hold now as the Peconic Bay would make for a great marathon run as it used to be.

                                Thanks CYC and SSOA

I've finally made it to my PC and all I can say is WOW! Dave Goodwin and his gang really made us feel at home, and Steve Noury and 'his' gang once again showed us why we drive half way across this great country for a boat race.
Our gang of 'Marathon Madmen' are proud to have competed in the third annual 'Haverhill River Run', and you can believe me, we had plenty to talk about, and laugh about, on our way back to Top'O land.
We all had a great time, one we will not soon forget. I had so many CYC members that I met last year come up and thank us for coming, and also wishing for me to do well in the marathon, that I felt just like a 'local' racer. Really cool.
I got to come home with two trophies, from only one race. One will go on the shelf with the last two, and the other will be treated like a Stanley Cup, being paraded around for all to see. I may, however, let it dry out a little first, that sucker is 'heavy'. lol
There are three new, (I am now a veteran) fans of region one racing, and I just wanted to once again say 'thank you' for everything. We will do our best to make it back next year for the next edition of the 'second toughest marathon' in the nation. Mark 'Kamp' Kurz
