      Haverhill Postponed

      Hi Everyone,

Steve asked me to send out this e-mail which I'm posting here.

      From: <snoury@comcast.net>
Date: Thu, Aug 25, 2011 at 11:01 AM
      Subject: Haverhill Postponement
      To: Paul OfTopsfield <paulotopsfield@gmail.com>

Paul - would you please email the following to the SSOA membership ASAP. Thanks, Steve

Due to the Storm path of Hurricane Irene we have decided to postpone this weekends Haverhill River Run 2011 event. Many concerns were factored into this decision. We were assured of losing at least Sunday; Economically the Yacht Club could not cover costs with just a one day race; and if the Storm is as bad as predicted, the Yacht Club will need Saturday to remove boats from the Docks.

The Yacht Club is too gracious of a host for them to take a financial hit ane they were genuinely concerned about guys travelling to race just one day.

We have pencilied in October 1st & 2nd, subject to Coast Guard and Local permit approvals, as an alternative date for the event. We will keep you updated as this developes.

      Steve Noury

Hope you get this in time,

see you at next at Tauton

      Paul L.

Mr. Goodwin - as always thanks for all of your support and good luck with the strom prep.

Steve - once again - boat racing's top promoter - nice job on calling the race early and not wasting everyones gas and time to get there and sit on a rain/blow out. We could all see this developing and kinda of knew that the cancel was ultimately going to happen but to already be working on a postponed date! this year! This is where you go above and beyond. I went to bed thinking no marathon for yet another year - and read at lunch that there is still another chance! - Thanks for all of your hard work!

Now on to the serious business - You're giving me another month to prepare? If last month shows us anything that's going to be worth at least another 8 mph! - look out! we may be approaching some sort of record territory

A quick reminder to please pass this information along to anyone that you think may have been planning on attending the race.

Canada's Bob Welland got the phone call about the postponement just as he entered Bangor, Maine. That call saved him 8 hours round trip.

Great job passing the word about the postponment at such a late notice, we did not find one race trailer in the pits!

Photo 1 - Notice to the locals we will be back October 1-2.

Photo 2 - Yacht Club starts process of removing member boats at 11:00AM. (On this same spot we stage 11 enclosed trailers and 22 boats)

Photo 3 - Where is Irene? For those that will be visiting for the first time, the clock is on the far side of the river by the concrete wall and the first turn is right in front of the pits.

Photo 4 - Balance of the pits on top of the river bank.

Will try to post photo's of storm activity Sunday.

Stay tuned to the Official thread of the Haverhill River Run 2011.

              Saturday.....Cloudy, quiet and erry

CYC removed all of the smaller boats to higher grounds and the larger boats were removed from the docks and put in the mooring field. Process was completed by 2:00 PM and the light rain started at around 3:30 - 4:00PM.

Will try to follow up with photo's Sunday.

Haverhill River Run - Take II

Talked to Dave Goodwin today and the River is looking raceable. The water level is still high but its flow has slowed considerably and the debris appears to be clearing. Should be good for next week.

The Marathon will be run at 4:00PM.

We will be posting the closed course schedule within a few days. Just a reminder, all out of Region Tow Vehicles will receive $50.00 towards fuel for the trip home.

                    Tuesday 9/27/11 -

Checked the River out today and we are full speed ahead. the water level is higher than usual for September but that actually works to our advantage. There appeared to be no debris in the water while the tide was moving out when you would most expect it. All of the boats and trailers that were moved for the Hurricane have been repositioned and the parking area is all ours. Final cleanup Weds / Thursday.

All of the sanction details remain the same as shown on the APBA website. We will update the roll call in post # 38 as we receive additional responses.

                    Steve

It's official - Kamp Kurz will not be traveling alone, roll call to be updated with names and boat munbers today. Rain or snow (yes it does snow in New England in October) the show will go on. Only a Hurricane can stop us.

                                Michigan effort.

Today at Ladd headquarters. The mother -of-all-open trailers was rigged with bunks, loaded with three of our four marathon rigs and most of our gear.
We will be hitting the road as soon as we can get it in gear Thursday.
Very much looking forward to hitting the road to Haverhill. You all are going to get a kick out of this trailer loaded with four marathon rigs. Quite a load. Around fifty one feet of marathon rigs, I estimate. Ha Ha. Mark Kurz
