Just heard that Jim Howe has been testing his 25SSR Marathon rig. He has picked up 8 MPH which means one of two things; He was really really slow in the first run or we should just send him the big trophy now! What is it Jim?

                    Hurricane Irene

The Crescent Yacht Club (CYC) and SSOA are closely watching the path of Hurricane Irene towards the Northeast.

The main concern for the CYC is that once the storm approaches predicted levels of rain and wind, it necessitates them removing boats from the docks to trailers in their lot. For the larger boats that do not have trailers, they drop moorings so they to can be removed them from the docks. Obviously this is not a five minute process and would have to be done prior to the Storm hitting the Northeast which is presently scheduled for Sunday.

We will be meeting this evening to determine what action, if any will need to be taken.

                    Steve

                      We're a scrarch.

Sorry folks, but we're going to have to scratch this race. We're looking at a big storm hitting here and we'll need to get ready. We'll see some of you in Lock Haven!

                      Cheers,
                      Fred

                        Hurricane update

After meeting this evening with the CYC we have come up with the following:

The weather forecast is not looking good. Sunday will be a washout with the storm hitting the Northeast with 80-100 mph winds by Sunday evening. Saturday is slighty more favorable with the rains not arriving until midday.

We (CYC & SSOA) will make a decision regarding the event by noontime thursday based on the latest weather information that is available. We will also be taking into consideration the economic impact on the CYC of only having a one day race.

For those travelling any distance, do not hesitate to call me at 603-642-3100 after 1PM thursday for an update.

                        Steve Noury

It would be great if we could still have the race this season.

                              Thursday - 7:30 AM update

Weather has not changed. Sunday is a washout and although we may not get rain until late Saturday we would still have to contend with high winds and rough water. (the river is effected by the ocean)

As we mentioned in previous post we will make a decision by Noontime today. The CYC will have considerable input into this decision both from an economic impact and a physical site standpoint. One day of racing will not generate the revenue to cover the fixed costs of a race and even if Saturday is marginally ok, they may need the site to prepare for Sunday's storm.

The good news is we have developed a backup plan that would postpone the event to October 1&2 subject to Coast Guard, local PD and Mass Environmental Police approvals.

We would request that if you know anyone that is considering attending this weekend, please give them a call and let them know as much as you have read here.

                              Steve Noury
