    Marathon Mania II

The Haverhill River Run 2010 did not disappoint. 18 boats roared off of the beach at 4:15PM and electrified the huge crowd in attendance. Defending Champ Mark Kurz broke out into the early lead with the legendary 110-J in hot pursuit.

At the 4.5 mile mark, Kurz was still leading with Bowman in second now being challenged by Hurricane Bill Forster. Ed O'Neil was leading the ASR's and Doug Pearsall the DSR's. By mile 9 Kurz was still out front but Forster passed Bowman and was running down Kurz.

As they came under the bridge at mile 13.5 Forster had passed Kurz! As they got into traffic overtaking the ASR backmarkers, Forster was actually pulling away and the crowd was now really making some noise.

Forster pulled off the upset as he appeared from under the bridge first to take the checkers with Kurz second, Teddy O'Neil leading the A's and Doug Pearsall leading the D's.

All of the Drivers were welcomed to a thunderous applause as they returned to the pits and headed to inspection.

Forster's day went from the Penthouse to the Outhouse when he came up 3 pounds short on weight moving Kurz into the number one position.

More on the closed course racing later

Spent the day there Saturday. Marathon was GREAT, I was tierd just watching these guys. Bowman you are KING of the roll up Runabouts. Giles was smoking in OSY.
Beautiful day. HUGE crowd on both sides of the river. Very small turn out of boats though. CSR had 8, 20ssh had 7 most other classes were 5 boats or less. First time i was ever at a Region 1 race and not 1 modified motor was there. All and all it was a good day. Noury great job by you and the boat club promoting this race. Next year will be more fun as I will be on the water vs standing and watching

I was ready to go and really would have liked to have been there but we're never put on the sanction. Glad the rest of you had fun.

Cheers to Doug in the "Eldorado"

Great shots so far! Steve we had a great time this weekend even if a little sore from the marathon. This is one of the best spectator crowds in stock outboard racing. Nothing like hearing air horns and cheering at the end of each heat. The crowd on the end of the dock shaking their fists and waving beers is what gave me the motivation to finish the marathon. Thanks also to the Haverhill community and yacht club you were great!

                          Steve

Steve thanks for hosting such a great race and for a great weekend of racing. We'll be back next year for sure. The marathon was great and the two pin turns for short coarse were sweet, thats what real racing is. The locals were such nice people, and the it was very cool to see the entire community behind a boat race. Also like to thanks mike and mike schmidt for their help when i got some wood stuck in my water pickup, and thanks to the long island/conneticut crew for their help all weekend.
                          - Johnny
If you missed this event, i suggest putting on your schedule for next season.

                            ASH Podium Picture

Love the picture of ASH winners. Almost a 60 age difference between 1st place Dick Currier and 2nd place Johnny Wlodarski.

Word is that Johnny's young eyes are much keener and he could see how rough it was while Dick just kept the throttle squeezed. Colleen was relegated to third after getting spit out of her boat in one heat while winning the other.

Just wanted to thank all of you for coming out to Haverhill and putting on one great show. Had a chance to speak with some of you on Sunday and everyone was very kind and most informative about your organization.

My six year old son was ecstatic when most of you asked him if he would like to sit in your boats. This made his whole summer and its all he talks about now and even has been researching.

Being the gearhead I am the thought of building an Outboard Hydroplane is on my mind and if I do decide to go with my urges I know I have found a place and people that are more then willing to help me along.

Here are some photos I took on Sunday I'm by no means a photographer by trade or hobby but I do think I got some good action shots.
