Hey all,
Wanted to let you know that my friend, mentor and Racing Dad John Myers suffered a serious stroke on Monday. At present he is in the ICU at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. JW and KW have asked for no phone calls or visitors, and are doing a fairly good job of providing updates of John's condition on Facebook.
In the meantime, Please keep John and his family in your thoughts and prayers.
Here's J-Dub's latest update as posted on Facebook today:
UPDATE:
Dad is definitely doing better! He has become more responsive, and appears to be more comfortable. We are not out of the woods by no means. His motor skills are limited but we are working on that as this is the time to get that moving forward. We have been able to get him to move his left foot and toe on command, and we are beginning to get a “Thumbs Up” as well sticking his tongue out.
Yesterday I brought in a part off a race engine that he would recognize the sound and the beautiful smell of. And for all you “Old School” outboard racers, it was an exhaust megaphone off the Quincy Six he and I have been working on. Made ya smile, didn’t it?
Obviously, we all know I am no Brain Surgeon, but I can be a good listener! Well, we learned that in his condition he will recognize sounds and smells very well. So without him seeing the megaphone, I tapped the side of it making the ever-so familiar sound that it makes.
EYES OPEN!
Then I held this “Properly Soiled” megaphone about 6” from his nose for about 30 seconds so he would “Catch a Whiff” of the greatest smell in all of boatracing, burnt Methanol & Caster!
EYES WIDE OPEN, INCREASED HEART RATE, HAND MOVEMENT, INCREASED BRAIN ACTIVITY!
It’s going to be a long road, but thank you for all your positive thoughts, emails, and messages. When you ask what you can do to help, you already are, and you don’t even know it!
Thanks again, and keep it up!
