  • To the Region 10 Outboard family

It's Sunday night, I am home from Little American Lake (hey, the 15 minute commute **** near killed me!) and I am exhausted and need a shower.

But I just want to thank ALL of the racers, families and friends who came through and supported this new event for us. I especially want to thank the following:

-My Co-Chair Shane Burkhart, a new racer and the closest boat racer who lives by me who got the crazy idea a year ago about approaching JBLM about having a boat race on one of the biggest Army Posts in North America.

-Rick Sandstrom, Howard Shaw, and Mark Mallory for working their butts off as race officials, announcers, flag people, patrol boat operators and kept the whole thing rolling so smoothly.

-Dave Anderson and Carl Lewis for keeping inspection a well-oiled machine...well, Carl was certainly well oiled.....

-Kyle Bahl for Managing our Risk and dealing with me not being available to pit crew for him hardly any of the weekend while I kept the Army folks happy.

-Denise Johnson for organizing a GREAT scoring team!

-Sammy Wallick for stopping the Garrison Commander of JBLM from coming into the pits and insisting he sign the waiver and wear a wrist band.

-Oregon Race Rescue for fishing Dave Sullivan out of the drink THREE TIMES this weekend and a host of others (Joe Others?)

-Christine Gleason, who kept me smiling, worked weeks to get our house ready for the Saturday night Open House, shot some great pictures (wait til you see these) and more than I can think of, all with only one mini-meltdown when she thought the power had been out all night on the freezer full of barbecue meat and fixings she had bought for the Open House.

And everyone else, who left the park cleaner than when we found it, moved their vehicles when I asked them to, walked "The Green Mile" out to our authorized parking area, and worked with me and the MWR staff to pull this thing off.

You guys are the greatest. Thanks again!

    Pat,

I would like to write a letter to the post commander or whoever, to thank them for the privilege of racing there. I raced there in 1963 and it brought back some memories. Can you provide a name and address? Maybe others could do the same.

Glad to hear you all are back on Little American Lake @ Fort Lewis. I "observed" racing there back in 1958 while stationed at McCord. Sorry I wasn't there to "observe" it again~!

Pat you put on a great race. Didn't even feel like a new race site, everything went that smooth! Now you can relax, at least for a week then nationals!

This was just awesome! I'm sure that guy was like, Who the **** is this? and why is he telling me what to do?! That will be in the risk manager write up! lol

                    Good job everyone involved

It was a pretty cool view from the pits, looking at the boats running straight at us. I am not normally nervous watching a boat race, but that view had me all kinds of puckered up. Sounds like we did all the things we need to do to get invited back, which is great. I left Saturday morning with a 1/4 tank of fuel in the truck, and got home Sunday without filling up AND I got to sleep in my own bed Saturday night, that is the PERFECT race weekend. Great job Pat, Shane and all the race committee!
