  • Great Job SOA at Castle Rock

being my home testing spot i had many concerns and quite honestly i thought using the resort was going to be a "dumpster fire".

you guys hit it out of the park man... great job kyle... you have a great crew. the idea of putting "slippery" at the launch was frickin genius... i'm thinking every race now needs a "ramp boss".

if we run there again maybe a more traditional course might be better? i saw a lotta missed buoys.

thanks for putting on a great race...

Yah....aside from Cameron getting hurt, it was a fantastic weekend of racing...I did adjust the course on Sunday morning..and trust me, like I said at drivers meeting, setting a course up is NOT an easy thing to do...I was getting pretty frustrated by the end of Saturday as to all the negative comments over it...but I did the best I could. I also thought it was going to be a disaster launch wise, but Ric Hannon will get free beers on me at Newburg for doing a fantastic job of getting boats in and out of the launch area...I don't think we had to hold up one heat over the course of 2 days of racing to wait for a boat to get in the water. I would go back there in a minute to race again! Great job Kyle..you worked your azz off on that race..and next beer is also on me....

        Silver Lake Rocks!

Racing in the cold rain and the warm spring sun is common in Region 10, sometimes in a single day. We lived this moderate change over 2 days this time. The launch was crammed, the mushy campground was packed, and the party was at the only suite in the lodge (thanks Carl and Sue.) Ron, Shelly and myself arrived on the overcast Friday afternoon, only to be greeted by the typical smiles and warm welcomes of not only racers, but the owners of the resort and locals that were hanging around.
The racing was clean, competitive and unfortunately for one team, a little less than pleasant. I hope Cameron's feet and Tony's arm heal completely and quickly! KB did an awesome job directing the race and I can't say it could have gone any smoother, thanks to Rick Hannon and his loudspeaker.
For a first race of the year, I had a blast! Thanks to everyone that made it happen and to the owners of Silver Lake Resort for their accommodation and welcome. I'm game to go back anytime!

I'm glad everyone had a good time. The owners absolutely loved us! They wanted us back again this season! 2013 is definitely on and we'll work to improve it. Cowlitz county fire did an excellent job with Cameron, especially being new to racing rescue. Dave, you were awesome for me! You can set the course anytime at my race. Thanks from me go to Dave, Jim Nilsen, Patrick, Scott and pattie (silver lake resort), slippery, cc, Denise, Carla, Dwight, and srp! Financially the race was also a success, you can't ask much more than finding a great race site that people want us at and not breaking the bank. Hope to see more out next year!

outstanding job, and to the many volunteers for making this race a great success thanks......

our good friend Cameron did not have a good opener to the season, he has a new child, a wonderful women, a new Job (about 2 weeks, not insured yet) and a new apartment.

we did a outstanding job in such a short time to find some funds to help but no doubt he could use a bit more...

denice johnson is the contact on this ................

              Thanks, C.C.

Agree, great job Kyle. I'm also very proud of everyone that stepped up to help make this race work...new site, short time frame to organize, first race of the season for region 10, new insurance regs, small pit & launch area, etc. It would be easy to make excuses, but people without being asked did what was needed to make it happen.

Also, I know we all wish Cameron & Tony quick recoveries from their injuries...long live Moby Grape Racing.

                Jim

Have to agree with all the positive comments previously mentioned.Had a great time and was very happy with the improved performance of my boat.A big get well soon to Cameron and Tony who both suffered this weekend. Thats 3 now Tony so I hope your luck is about to improve ! Looking forward to running CSR at Moses Lake . I even made it home on Sunday night after driving like hell from Castle Rock to the border ! 275 miles in four hours, got to the BC Ferry at 8:58 for the last ferry leaving at 9:00 pm ! What a relaxing weekend........but worth every penny. Thanks Carl , Sue and Marjory for the wonderful dinners and great hospitality. And to Kyle and all the SOA crew
for a well organized weekend. Like I tell my non racing friends " EVERY RACE WEEKEND IS LIKE A BIG FAMILY REUNION " JGW 1CW

                    Great job SOA and KB

Honestly after testing at this site the week before I was pretty sure it would be a disaster. Kyle, all I can say is you pulled it off man, well done. Slippery was the other main man, making a 2 wide boat ramp work like it was 10 wide.

MGR had some setbacks and some fun, big highs, bigger lows. Thanks to all R10ers for everything you did to help us out. We are all on the mend, and the wood can always be fixed. Looking forward to Castle Rock next year.

                      big thanks

Kyle what a great job. I never saw you get upset or say a harsh word. That say a lot about your character under fire. You had time to take care of my needs and for that I thank you. Your club did a great job of keeping things going. I forgot to pay you for the camping. If you PM me with an address I will take of it. See you all at Newburg.

Hello to all, Its great to be back after my 2nd transplant and feeling about 75%. I thought I was only going to be filling in at Pit Boss for JW for 1 flight. Although right away I new I had to step up to keep a steady rotation of boats in and out of a single Boat launch with a Sea wall on one side and a serious drop off on the other.
Thanks to Smelt Farmer Racing for the megaphone w/ siren...lol
For those that were not there we tied a rope from the dock app. 60 - 80 ft out to a log and the drivers launched, climbed in, and pulled there hulls to the dock where they staged for the start. It worked very well and seeing 11 CSH lined up was very impressive. This made a race site that should not have even happened to an over all great success.
I just wanted to point out to everyone across the nation how we did pull this off should any of you find a race site that looks impossible. We made it work.
Thanks to all the (Drivers and pit crews for there patients,) and a lesson on warming there engines on the beach prior to launching.
(This saves incredible time,) and should be implimented at all of our races. If we start racing at 11:00A.M. races should finish by 4:00 P.M. We need a quick start from the end of each heat to the 3 minute gun for the next.
Spectators get bored with delays in racing and after a few hours and lawn chairs fold up and they leave.
We need to shorten our program.
Kelly and I stoped by the Hospital on our way home Sunday evening and visited Cameron. He is doing well in much pain as expected. He came home on Tuesday. both of his feet got tangled up in the propeller. He wont be doing much dancing but he is a trooper and will be back.
His spirits are good. He does not have Medical Ins. as he just started a new job and it has not kicked in yet.
Knowing many of you and the wonderful family we are, we will unite and get a fund raiser going for him. I ask when it gets going that you please do what you can for a very nice young man.
Tony was in and out of the Hospital with a nasty cut on his arm from a fall in the pits where the boat got him. I was worried about all the baby strollers on the ramp and one of our own got it while working on there hull. Tony is as tuff as a Bull and is probably already back to work or out working on there equipment. Go Moby Grape ! lol
As already noted a GREAT job by Race Chairman Kyle Bahl, Referee Jim Nielson, Head scorer Denise Johnson. Dave Anderson & Carl Lewis Inspectors and many others that all jumped in when needed to make the program ROCK !
I am looking foreward very much to Newberg on Memorial Day week end this year as I was just out of the Hospial last year and could not attend.
                        But,
Mostly to see my dear freind of 45+ years Dan Schwartz after a horrible crash that alomost took his life. He and wife Jean are comming up from California. Dan will be our Head Inspector, with Carl Lewis and my self at his side to assist.
I wish everyone a great and safe racing season and to see all the region 10 drivers and family at Newberg, Or.
Go like Hell and turn left,
                        Slip,

Without slippery as pit boss Castlerock could have been a disaster.....great job dude. I have also been friends with Dan Swartz for quite a while....and was so glad to see him at western divisionals last month...every time I see him he is getting better and better...the good thing is that while his body is still on the mend his mind is as sharp as a tack....he answered a few inspection questions I had for him without missing a beat...it will do my heart good to see him again.. We also need to pull together and help Cameron out...I made a small donation, and will make more donations as the year goes on race wise. We all need to step up and help out. I think Denise Johnson is heading things up, could be wrong on that though. See most of you at Moses Lake next week!
