  • West Coast Sidewinder News!

A Big weekend for the Sidewinders in Region 10. This past weekend at Moses Lake, Aaron Peterson took first on Saturday in 20SSH running a 20 c.i. Sidewinder. Unless I'm mistaken, this is the first win in 20SSH for the new motor.

Aaron also ran a Sidewinder A in ASR, where he was very fast (even running against this year's National Champ, J Michael Kelly) and took the win in ASR in Sunday's racing action.

Congrats to both Sidewinder and Aaron Peterson for a successful weekend.

Whoever runs the A Sidewinder in either class at Lawrence will smash a record from what I saw this weekend.

The parity committee has a big task in front of them in respect to ASH and ASR if they so choose to pursue parity with the OMC's. I wish you the best of wisdom.

        FOR SALE:
Slightly used, great condition OMC with prop - $4500

Did he beat everyone straight up in both classes or were there gun jumpers?

Have not had an opputrunity to see the 20 sidewinder yet but the A sidewinders we have seen at a few races appear to be fast in the midwest.

I also have a OMC with prop for sale just a little less though....4400.00

              Don,

There were gun jumpers in 20SS. Peterson and Mike Johnson (partners in owning the 20 Sidewinder) have tried multiple boats, propeller combinations and tinkering with engine to get it to this point, which is typically running mid-pack: off pace of the fastest restricted 302s, but faster than the mid-pack 302s and 80's out here. I believe once they get it propped correctly and find the right boat (the Abell Furnal hull looks pretty good) they will be in the mix on a consistent basis; however not as dominating as its A counterpart.

On the A, I didn't get to watch much on Saturday because he was right before one of our hydro classes and we were focused on that. I believe he had a DNS or DNF the first heat and won the 2nd heat handily. I made a point of watching the Sidewinder A on Sunday and it wasn't even a fair fight...although JMK didn't run ASR on Sunday. He won both heats convincingly.

                TBD.

If 2008 Team Pavilck or 2009 Team Pavlick or 2010 Team Pavlick has any indication, I just might have to be a Team Pavlick hopeful for at least one more year.

Pat made a great summary as a Region Chairman.

A slightly more vivid description from a on-looker would be the 20 needs 4-5mph as it was beat by a half a lap by a "top 5" 20ssh boat that started 5 seconds late. As well as the A needs to be cooled down by 3-4mph as Aaron was almost off-plane at the start (too not jump the gun and stayed legal) as two others did jump the gun at full speed by 1.5-2 seconds and he passed both of them by the exit of turn 2 in the first lap on a .83mile course.

Setting aside my personal opinion about the 20ci in 20ssh, it's awesome to see different motors out on the course.

My reason about these comments is that whoever runs the A at Lawrence will set a record. I then imagine the parity committee will properly adjust the SW in the off-season but the record(s) that will be set will possibly have a impact on season ending titles, i.e point champion, HOC points, etc. while also affecting obtainability of A records in the future.

I my bloated opinion, we ought to check ourself before we wreck ourself!

I do not offer up a possible solution yet that doesn't change that I see an issue that needs to be addressed.

I do not have a pony in this.... but it is funny now that they are legal motors people found speed.

I am still looking for an OMC A gearfoot. I have 4 cyl parts to trade or cash.

Awe snap! No, jumpers, eh? Correction stands! Not only does it look good, the SW helps with weight too! How many lbs were you over with it?

The Sidewinder pretty much handed it to me in ASR in the 2nd heat at Moses Lake. I guess its time to retire from A stock now! lol

                              Sidewinder

As a stock commisioner, I am really interested in how the new Sidewinder performs...I was pretty impressed watching it run in the 2 classes this last weekend.....for whatever reason it did not look fast on the hydro, until you saw it run down some boats in front of it. I think this whole think is pretty cool....and I sure hope Sidwinder sells more motors on the West coast. Daveracer.
