  • George Henley Needs Us

This has not been a good week for Region 10.

Not only have we lost Marc Moberly, but on Sunday, George Henley suffered a major Heart Attack.

George Henley is a former Gold Cup winner and National Champion in the Pay n Pak unlimited, and is also an owner of Henley's Silver Lake Resort in Eatonville WA. Aside from being a staunch supporter of all boat racing and a friend of Seattle Outboard Association, he is one of the nicest and most decent human beings you will ever meet.

At this time, George is in the ICU at Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup. At last report, his condition is critical.

While George's family has requested no visitors at this time (he is unconscious), the family has set up a Caring Bridge Web Site to keep us updated and let people send their well wishes to George when he wakes up.

The link to the website is http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/georgehenley

Please keep George and his family in your thoughts and prayers. He needs lots of good thoughts and positive vibes sent his way!

If anyone can pull throught this it is George and Mary. They were so great to us at the race and we had a blast talking about the good old days. Hang in there. Our prayers are with you.

Send well wishes to George. He's a great guy and his family has provided a place for us to race for 30+ years. An outboarder at heart all the way.

I'm forwarding this to RFC (Racer's For Christ) and will be on my knee's!

George is a wonderful friend, I mean who else would put up with me, and put me up for a night?

I'm still in a bit of shock

            GOD SPEED HENLEY FAMILY!

              George Update

Copied from the caring bridge page:

"After several heart attacks, dads endurance has slowed down and he is now in his "final lap". Dad has been moved to a private room in the hospital where he is receiving Comfort Care (please look this term up if you are not familiar with it). He is in no pain and surrounded by family and loved ones.

I cannot express enough how touched we all are when reading your thoughtful, tender words ...thank you so much.

              ~Lori "

Our thoughts are with the entire Henley family at this time. For those of you who don't know about Comfort Care it is where no further interventions will be made to prolong life, nature is to take it's course. So as George rounds the final turn of the final lap and sees the checked flag ahead we wish him God's Speed!

The Hydroracing world lost it's most valued member! Maybe George didn't have as many Gold cup victories as Muncey, or Chenoweth, but he did have something that very few possess. He has a care for others like none I can name. My dad was a very proud man and had a flash fuse for a temper. I remember the first day my dad and I met George. George drove up in a van with "Hamilton Jet" on the side of it with an aluminum boat in tow. Dad just got burned with another Berkley and said "Never again!" George came in and said that he was the Hamilton jet rep, dad very quickly showed him the door, but George said "wait a minute, what's your story?" Dad told him all about his other tales of woe with pumps. George then said, "If you can give me ten minutes of your time, I will teach you more about jets than you will ever learn in your life time!" Dad gave him the ten minutes, watching his watch, then George said do you want to head to the water? An hour later, George wrote an order for a Hamilton jet package and we became firm believers. This is the kind of man George is and I hope maybe those who didn't have the pleasure of meeting him might get a glimps into what kind of person this great friend really is. He's very slow to anger, listens to your side of the argument before teling you that you are wrong and with the patience of a saint, he can lead you to his way of thinking on the subject and have it make sense to you. This is what a true friend does whether it be business or friendship.

Several years ago, George and I had a long talk about eternity. I know where he is at and I know we will see him again, this is my peace and I can hardly wait for that day! I for one will always be beholding for what the Henley's have done for our sport and region 10, MAY WE NEVER FORGET!
