  • Devil's Lake Kilos 2009

Just left the pits -they are packed already.

    In da house:

    Sean McKean
    Colin Smith
    Carter Olson
    The Rucker Kids
    Aaron "Fish" Salmon
John Peeters (no, there will not be a push boat kilo attempt)
    Bob Wartinger (of course)
    Aaron Peterson
    Dave Rankin
    Dave Villwock
    Duff Daily
    Anne Hathaway
    Russ Dodge

    Due:
    The Hopps
    The Bridgemans
    JW Myers
    Anne Thurman
    ...and others.

Folks, this is worth the drive down. Myers and McKean head to head in capsule outboard hydro. Arguably three of the fastest inboard capsule
flatbottoms around. Russ Dodge trying to grab the 1 litre Mod record back from Kanfoush. Two days on D-Lake. We'll try to keep you posted.

    Driver's meeting at 7 am...sharp!

      Holy S***!

Nine hours of kilos. Wrapped for the day around 6:20pm and headed straight to debrief at CraigCraft World Headquarters.

National Records pending inspection (or faster times tomorrow):

      JR - Carter Olson 38.736
      JH - Colin Smith 43.702
      AXSR - Aaron Peterson 54.63
      125cch - Bob Wartinger 74.354
      700cch - Sean McKean 126.267
      1100cch - Sean McKean 119.263 (95% capsule rule)
Comp Jet - Mark Moyle 94.97
Super Stock - Dave Villwock 127.25

The PRO capsule slugfest was just that. Corey Peabody threw down a 124.59. McKean breaks that, in a run that included a pass at 128.05. JW Myers nuts up tomorrow for a go at it. Could we see 130?

Villwock ripped off a 130.973 pass on his run. Sounds like they are headed for the thin air and the Pro Stock number tomorrow. Chas Dodge made a healthy swipe at Dan Kanfoush's 1 Litre Mod mark - it is reachable. Jeff Bernard tore off a pass of 150 late in the day in National Mod - word is there is more horsepower to load. Jared Martin is due in tomorrow to throw down in JR and JH. Will we see the elusive ULs tomorrow, or will they be a big no show?

For the first time in about ten years, there was a BIG dump. Duff Daily chine-walked a K Racing Runabout in one of the more spectacular wrecks we have ever seen. Duff walked away. Because of a capsule. Don't run kilos without them. Photos of the wreck coming soon. Yep - Denise got the whole thing.

          Sunday

Last I heard, JW went out but couldn't up the record. Aaron Peterson set the AXSH record, Aaron Salmon (Fish) upped the AXSR record and Carter Olsen upped the JR record and was going out in JH as I spoke on the phone. Jeff Bernard was very close on his record and still has more runs left, however the weather (and the tide I assume) is starting to change....

I think Wart's 125ccH record was already 83 + so his new record must be 84 mph, not 74 ? My old 125ccH kilo record in 1976-7 was 77-78 mph.

Thanks for the reports - wish I could have made it down there this year.

              Update

Another update, Aaron Peterson apparently was not over the AXSH hydro record so that was wrong info....Sean just set the 1100cch record at 126.3(something). K boat going out now, still on the water. I am not sure what Warts record was, but I am sure I kind find out!

I think Mike J must have had a long day lol. Aaron Salmon is the one who set the AXSR record, so I am sure once they get completely done he will update as necessary.

From the pits by Lorraine McKean. Sean set the 1100 CCH at 130.5. One way run at 131.9. Now Sean has two records to take home. Way to go Sean, new you could do it.....Bob N-96

Did Jdub run his 1100cch? How about the Unlimited Light Hydro?

                      Thanks for the reports.

                          Long day is right!

Sunday ran nine hours after the ten hours of fun yesterday. No accidents, just more speed. And, yes the Aaron Peterson AXSR was wrong, as that was an ASR run that got thrown out. Wartinger was running 175 this weekend, not 125. Anyway...

                          These are OFFICIAL results:

                          National records:

                          JR - Carter Olson 40.015
                          JH - Colin Smith 43.702
AXSR - Aaron "Fish" Salmon 51.798
                          175cc Hydro - Bob Wartinger 74.354
                          700cc Hydro - Sean McKean 130.563
                          1100cc Hydro - Sean McKean 126.382
Comp Jet - Mark Moyle 94.971
Super Stock - Dave Villwock 129.110

Note the bold - top record of the weekend to Sean McKean in 700cc; that run included a pass at 132.9. Sean blasted the existing record by nine mph. The 1100cc record was upped - that's no 95% mark, that run broke the open cockpit mark.

All day battle between the two Aarons in AXSR. Smith and Olson kept pushing at the Saturday speeds in J, while Jared Martin was a third boat that ran over the previous JR record. In the oh-so-close category, Chas Dodge missed the 1 Litre Mod mark by .4 mph.

We also do region records. It can be a fun thing, or a testing thing. Tom Smith joined CORA and was adopted by Region 10 for the weekend. It's been 10 years or more since we saw a DSH at kilos - looks like the local boys need to show up and get the record back

                          Region Records:

                          AXSR - Sheri Hathaway 49.269
                          KPRO - Ashley Rucker 53.519
                          20ss - Anne Thurman 61.427
                          OSY - John Peeters 70.439
                          DSH - Tom Smith 79.384
                          45ss - John Peeters 80.475

                          Scanner 2 - out.
