Are there any lakes in Region 10, that allow people to "test" race boats. I live in Calgary, Ab, and there is no place around here for me to get a boat "wet". I know there is testing allowed before most races, but I would need more than a couple laps to get use to my boat and find the best set-up for different situations. I have a cottage back in Ont. where I can do this but that's about 3500Km away, not very handy. Any place in northern Montana, would be great.

In the Seattle area, you can test at Lake Tapps on Wednesdays between 4 and 7 pm. Boat launch fee is $15.

Depending upon what it is you are testing (meaning if it's a fairly quiet stock outboard), you can also run out of the Lake Sammamish State Park ramp in Issaquah, provided you get in, do your thing, and get out within a reasonable amount of time. I believe the current launching fee there is around $8.

In eastern Washington, you could run at Scootney Reservoir, south of Othello WA just about any day and time, with no restrictions other than the intrusions by non-english speaking buffons on Jet Skis that run all over the place in the summer on weekends. Weekdays and in less-than-summer conditions, your only spectators will be cows, jackrabbits and nasty little bugs. No launch fee that I know of.

I'm sure there are other places in Eastern Washington that I'm not privy to--maybe Mike, Teresa or some of the Stateline Outboard people can provide you with.

Wherever it is you decide to go, make suire you take a patrol boat staffed with a buddy just in case you have problems, a cell phone, and wear adequate safety gear.

    Have fun,

Hey thanks for the info, I will look into the places you suggested. If I can find a good place near a city big enough for me to teach a class I could mix business with pleasure. And yes, I would only go on the water if I had some backup around, I'm hopping I can meet some racers on here and hook up to get wet and talk racing.

What about Whitefish Lake or Flathead Lake Montana. Try Kelowna, BC... they used to race there.

State Line Outboard Racing Association (SLORA)...they have a web site.

SLORA is racing at Ione, Washington on the river there, August 1 and 2.

The new administrators for HydroRacer race out of this group and should be able to help you.

Contact 'Mrs blueskyracer' or 'blueskyracer' on this site. They live in Montana.

Good Luck. Also, be sure to find out the best dimensions for your new Tohatsu D Stock Hydro before you build.

Instructor, no testing at the Ione Washington race. I think our next race with testing is AOF nationals in Moses Lake. As far as testing in Montana, around where we live you have to get permission from Avista and it is pretty tough to get. I can't say for Flathead Lake or Whitefish area.

We were able to test early in the year in a very nice spot on the Clark Fork river and will probably do it again next year sometime in May. Let us know if you will be interested in April so we can set it up.

Other wise we test at a race by laying in the back of the pack and testing props and set up if we can't do any normal testing.

If you can make it to Ione we will get you a ride when the racing is over on Saturday. If you want we could get you set up to race on Sunday if you are up to it.
