  • R-12 Capsule

Is anyone running Howard Andersens' old capsule boat. I had heard is was going to be at the PRO nationals in DePue last year , but it wasn't. My personnal opinion , but it might have been the best capsule boat out there at one time.

    It's still around

The boat is owned by Corey Peabody in the Seattle. Last February, JW Myers and Corey ran it through the Kilos at Oroville California with a 700cc Konny on it..

It's still very, very fast. See the picturers, read the thread here:

Thanks for the info. Is he racing the boat and is there any chance of it showing up at the PRO nationals in DePue this year. As a child growing up in DePue we lived for the Nationals every year. We always had a competition back then which was to see if you could " land on a team " for the week. You would ask a racer when they got into town if you could wash thier boats for the weekend and sit on the trailer for the races. This was back in the 70's. I was able to land on Howards trailer for 3 years in a row. It sounds kind of lame but it was pretty cool. Back then you always knew where to find him because he always parked in front of the VFW on the shore and had the Washington state flag flying high. The yellow and blue of the R-12 boats were always my favorite and Howard and Penny were always popular in DePue. Here is a picture of his old runabout at last years Nationals. Hope Howard is doing well.

Last I heard, the capsule is not coming back this year. The picture of the R-12 1100cc runabout from last year was JW Meyers Driving (new owner). That was with the old 1100cc Konig motor, that now has a new intake port on the wrong side of the motor.

Just wait till you see the capsule run with the new 700cc Konny. Honestly, it's the fastest 700cc Konny/Konig I have ever seen. It may take another year, but JW Meyers will get the set up dialed in and be in the record books yet again.

          Howard and Penny

Howard is doing very well, thanks for the comments! You will see him and my Mom in DePue again this year, less the boats and trailer. Now he gets to sit in a lawn chair and watch! One of the things Howard enjoyed most was the help washing the boats and the excitement from those who came down to the pits to help.

However, we have acquired the trailer, and the flags as well. So, after we leave Grass Lake and head down for Sunday's racing, you will see those flags flying high in our pit area.

            Still in the record books

According to the program from last years PRO nationals , the 1100cc runabout kilo record is held by Terry Klemm at 109.448mph , but the competition record of 82.721mph is still held by Howard set back in 1999.

              Yep!

The first and only record he ever set on the 1 2/3rds course which no longer exists in the pro category. So, in essence, he will hold that one forever. Deck rider was J Michael Kelly, and they both were very excited. He was almost 72 when he set it!
