  • Newberg 60th is in the books

On behalf of the Newberg Boat Club and Columbia Outboard Racing Association, I want to extend a very big thank you to all who participated, volunteered and spectacled.

Formed in 1946, the Newberg Boat Club has held a regatta at Rogers Landing under APBA sanction for 60 years. But racing goes back even further than APBA itself. This year we had on display a Newberg Boat Race trophy from 1902!

Our history aside, what makes Newberg the event that Region 10 flocks to every year is the close friendships we share in our region, the bonfire, old race boat burning and the celebratory atmosphere that all combine to make "Newberg". So thanks again to all who attended, and to those who stayed home because of the weather; you missed the best Newberg ever!

We had a great time, even with the rain Saturday night. Won so much beer that I couldn't drink it all.

Every year I come away amazed..

that this little club of a few members can pull off an event so BIG. I think my favorite part was looking at the historical things that were on display, like the article on Reins in 1971 crashing in turn 1, crawling back in his boat and finishing 2nd! The posters fron the early eighties announcing $1,000 in prize money made me long for the old beer garden days (I know that's where the prize money came from). Great race, great location, great friends and great times, life can be really sweet.

Hmmmm, looks like the beginning of a great thing! But, I'm not opposed to re-opening the beer garden……………

                Roll Up Rule

The best part was watching Ricky Montoya in his roll up CSR beating the Sissy finners!

                Way to go Rick!

before or after he crashed?????? If not for a lack of "refueling".........a "sissy fin" boat would have won and another "sissy fin" boat showed the way around the course in a different heat (both were RunneCrafts)!
