  • First US UIM Champion

Who was the first representative of the US to win a UIM/Outboard World Title?

I am thinking it was Paul Sawyer in 1930's, William Tenney in the 50's, Doug Creech in the 50's also, maybe Marshall Eldredge or H.P. Shakeshaft?

    ty for the assistance

I believe Fred Jacoby won one in Europe. Do not know when, but my hunch is RC would know but doesn't do or admit to using the computer.

      Not the First

But, I beleive that Mal Harden won at Dayton in the early 1980's in 350 hydro. Also, Dan Kirts won 250 hydro if I recall correctly.

        Tim Butts

Looking UIM web site, it looks like Tim Butts is the first American. 0-250 in 1972,

          Horrace Tennes. 1934.
The U.S. was also first overall in the four driver team standings, beating out France & England. These were the fastest outboards in the world at the time, sponsored by European royalty and the richest of the rich. (I'd love to have one of those superchanged Sorianos on my boat). There's more online if you Google "Horrace Tennes". The whole Soriano website is pretty cool too.

Thats what I am looking for!!!!

            Thank you Jimi.

This is a research project to assist the US A-Team effort in Europe this year. Any more info on past champions is appreciated.

I don't know about the other but if you search Tim Butts on the Boat racing facts site there are a lot of great threads - last year about this time I spent weeks of evening reading about his boats, travels etc
