Micky Politi continues to dominate in class F-250 / O-250

Micky Politi of Italy won the world O-250 championships in Brodenbach over weekend to add to his 1st round win in the Formula 250 series. In the early testing and timed practise sessions though it looked as though it would not be going his way. Politi flipped his boat in the timed session, and had to carry out repairs before competing in the 1st heat, this moved him down the jetty a fair way. Jarno Pirhonen of finland again showed the speed to take poll position ahead of Daniele Mammucari.

The first heat saw the usual names away from the jetty with Pirhonen, Mammucari, Dickfors and Politi coming up from the lower end of the jetty. Politi was able to make his way up to 3rd positon, but was unable to catch the flying Fin Pirhonen and Mammucari. Dickfors failed to finish the heat with Synoracki taking 4th ahead of Zuddas and then Goodman.

Heat 2 Saw Pirhonen with Mammucari & Dickfors. Politi did not get away so well, and was working his way through the pack. Goodman had a flying start, and as Mamaucari droppped out with a cylinder problem Goodman found himself in second position trying to hold off the pushing Politi. All of a sudden the race was called to a stop on lap 4 when the rescue boat put out the red flag for no reason. The race was then cancelled and re-run from scratch with confussion on the jetty, if it was a re-run or not. Politi then went on to win re-run with Dickfors and Goodman taking the following places after a good battle win René Behncke until the Germans Stack pipe came adrift. Pirhonens luck looked as though it was heading the same way as his 2001 title challenge when again he failed to finish the heat after showing so much speed.

Heat 3 saw Politi flyinmg away to the top buoy again, with Pirhonen, Mammucari, Dickfors & Synoracki. One by one lap after lap saw the others drop out of the heat allowing Politi to go on and take the win ahead of Dickfors, Bobbioni and Tunde. Goodman was unable to finish the heat, when the close friendship with Tunde, got a little too close with Tunde being squeezed on top of Goodmans deck and side, with the skeg cutting through like a jig saw. After calculations were carried out, Politi had done enough to take the title he won last year.

Heat four saw Goodman needing to finish in front of Bobbioni and Pirhonen to take a podium finish, and everything looked to be going well when Bobbioni didn't get off the line so well, with Dickfors and Pirhonen. Pirhonen then stopped on the top turn buoy with Goodman again battling against René Behncke With bobbioni just behind. Then as Dickfors and two back markers rounded the top buoy, Dickfors found himself heading directly for Pirhonens stranded boat, with Pirhonen taking the option to abandon ship, rather than be hit by Dickfors. The race was then stopped with the wet driver rule and all boats returned to the jetty. The race was then restarted with Bobbioni off to a flying start this time with Tunde who was so close to Bobbioni lap after lap with Goodman just behind. Dickfors start was not so clean this time and would see Bobbioni leapfrog him into second position in the championship with Dickfors only able to take 5th place in the heat behind Dirk Kott.

At the end of the presentation saw the usual celebrations coming from the Italians with everyone (Including Me!) being thrown into the river who was in the pit area. Nancy Gerbert was the winner of the wet T-shirt competition, she'll collect her prize in Bitterfeld later in the season!
