  • 2006 Pete Hellsten Memorial Tarheel Regatta

The USTS will return to beautiful Lake Wheeler in Raleigh, NC for the 2nd Annual USTS Tar Heel Regatta. This year’s race also carries the annual Pete Hellsten Memorial banner, as we remember Pete’s considerable contributions to the sport of Professional Outboard Racing and to the United States Title Series organization. We owe a special thanks to radio stations Mix 101.5 and The New 99.9 Genuine Country who will promote and cover the races. Also, our hosts for this race, American Legion Post #1 and Vertical Rehab, Inc., deserve our gratitude for their generosity.

The weekend’s events will begin with insured testing on Friday. All drivers must register prior to entering the race course. The approximate time for testing is 11:00AM to 5:00PM. Saturday’s classes will include 125ccR, 250ccR, 500ccR, K PRO, 350ccH and 500ccH. Sunday’s classes will include 350ccR, K PRO, 125ccH, 250ccH, 1100ccH and OSY400.

We had a very successful inaugural event at Lake Wheeler in 2005. The Raleigh Parks and Recreation Department is extremely excited to welcome us back. Once again this year, they are going out of their way to make this race a success. Please take the time to thank the many Park staff members that work so hard for this race.

Saturday night will feature a catered dinned in the Pavilion. Please remember that consumption of alcohol on the park premises in restricted to the deck area of the Pavilion following the conclusion of testing on Friday and the races on Saturday. Otherwise, consumption of alcoholic beverages is not permitted in the Park. Any drivers/teams violating this rule will be subject to disqualification for the weekend.

We just wanted to invite everyone for cake and music on the deck following Saturday night's dinner. Amy turns 16 on October 4th and would love to celebrate with her boat racing friends at Raleigh. No presents please....just your presence. Hope to see you all there.
